Apple USB Ethernet Adapter
Works with more systems..
Written by GP from Aurora
20/02/2008
I was able to get the adapter to work with a MacBook Pro and MacBook.
It was bought because the ethernet adapter in the MacBook is broken and out of warranty... The adapter wouldn't work on the MacBook at first but it would on the MacBook Pro. The MacBook wasn't updated to 10.5.2 and when updated (via airport), the adapter worked fine.485 of 625 people found this useful

This product works perfectly with my macbook air. Setup was quick and easy, all I needed to do was plug one end to my macbook air and the other end to an ethernet cable and I was instantly on the network. Please be advised, just as the label says on the package, this product is "Compatible only with MacBook Air computers".

Apple USB Ethernet Adapter
Works with Mac Mini
Written by TB from Pittsburg
14/03/2008
I purchased this device for my new Intel Mac Mini. I am using Leopard 10.5.2 and this adapter works perfect.
When I plugged the adapter into a USB port of my Mac Mini with the ethernet side plugged into my Time Capsule the network connection was made without any effort on my part.
I was able to change this from a DHCP to a manual configuration without any issues.
I rate this device 5 stars.

Tip top product

Works very well indeed without any fuss. An attractive price for what it is and what it does.
It's silly I know but I must add that, from an aesthetic point of view, it is lovely to look at, hold and touch!102 of 102 people found this useful

Apple USB Ethernet Adapter
Perfect for Linux
Written by MO from LA COLLE SUR LOUP

I love this device: beautiful, cheap, light, and above all, it works out of the box if you are using Linux (2.6.26 and above). You just plug it in and you have a new eth1 network device.
I seemed to get the same download bandwidth than with my regular Ethernet connector.
This device is so much lighter that the one from D-Link (and others), and much more solid than Linksys'. I also recommend it on my blog.103 of 110 people found this useful

Works with MacBook too!
Written by JZ from WEST HOLLYWOOD

The ethernet jack on my 3-year-old MacBook (2GHz Intel Core Duo, running 10.5.6) stopped working, so I went to an Apple Retail Store to buy one of these adaptors. The staff told me it only works with a MacBook Air, but I was desperate and ignored their warnings. Thank God I did because it works perfectly! So even if you don't have a MacBook Air, buy this adaptor with confidence. It totally works!

It works on my G4 mac mini!
Written by WC from TORQUAY

I'm using G4 1.42 mac mini, upgraded to 1GB RAM & loaded with Tiger OS. Lately the network port was struck by lighting & the machine was unable to get online. Thanks to this product, it saved the life of my mac mini!
All I needed was to upgrade my OS from Tiger to Leopard, subsequently I used my macbook to download Mac OS 10.5.2 Combo updates & installed the updates on my mac mini. Then I plug this adapter into my mac mini and it works!52 of 55 people found this useful

Apple USB Ethernet Adapter
Works with Power Mac dual-G5 with 10.5.2
Written by ME from Tucson

I zapped my ethernet port on my PowerMac G5 tower and had to use IP via FireWire to my PowerBook to go out to the net--which worked 100% cool BTW! Anyway, I got this adapter and plugged it in, no reboot, and poof, my G5 is working on ethernet and I shutdown the Firewire IP and just like Apple...poof and it's working...no reboot...nothing to do. So while it says only MacBook Air, I think Apple got it working in 10.5.2 for other machines also--including older PowerPC boxes. Score one for Apple!

This product does work...

I have read a couple of reviews on this product where some have not been able to use this product. The adapter was originally intended to be used with the Macbook Air but with the recent update in Leopard 10.5.2, this will work as long as the computer you are using is updated to 10.5.2. I have tested this as well on a G5 and G4 desktop machine as well as the laptops.

Network port on my iMac got fried by lightning so I took a chance based on other reviews. Says its only for MacBook Air. Plugged it in and it hooked right up- just like a Mac product, "It just works!"
iMac G5 1.8Ghz without iSight. Leopard 10.5.4.
Thanks Apple!46 of 53 people found this useful

No LED light to check whether network is alive
Written by HM from New York

Good design and compact size.
However there's no LED light to see whether the connected network is alive. This is iritating for me.
And though this is not a review, I wish Apple include this into the package of MacBook Air. (Or make a discount if you purchase this simulatenously)68 of 101 people found this useful

It clearly says on the rear of the packaging: "Compatible ONLY with MacBook Air computers."
I'm not understanding what's so unclear. The packaging states it's only for the MacBook Air. This product works as advertised, it provides Ethernet through the high-powered USB port on the MacBook Air.282 of 530 people found this useful

YES It works on a macbook!!!!

I have a loose ethernet connection on my macbook. For the longest time I thought I had a bad cable. Very annoying. According to my research a new logic board is necessary to fix the bad plug. Sounds like a poor design. I had a loose plug almost from day one.
In any event I just purchased the Apple USB ethernet adapter and it work!!!!!!
When I first plugged it in nothing happened. I opened the network preferences page and activated "USB Ethernet". Bingo I'm connected. I don't know why Apple states on the package that this part only works with a MacBook Air.28 of 29 people found this useful

My home network is wireless, but at school, ethernet is the only way to go. This worked perfectly with my Macbook Air, and not surprisingly, it worked with my brand new aluminum imac as well. I'm assuming this has to do with the high powered usb ports. Anyway, just read the tech specs first. ONLY MADE FOR MACBOOK AIR. If ya wanna use it with OTHER MACS, PLEASE BUY AT YOUR OWN RISK

Works Well with MacBook Pro
Written by SJ from Chesapeake

I have used this adapter with no problems as expected with MacBook Pro. It is aimed primarily at the MacBook Air since it has no built in ethernet connection. Ethernet and USB are standards so expect it to work with any USB port. Works great and satisfied my need with no issues.

An adapter that actually works!
Written by AD from SALFORD

I had previously tried two other makes of supposedly Mac-compatible USB ethernet adapters before I bought this version. They were both rubbish.
This one does exactly what it's supposed to - give you full speed 100mbps ethernet. None of the others I have tried come close, the best achieving 1MB/s. This Apple adapter easily gets 11.7MB/s over my LAN, which is indistinguishable from built-in ethernet. Top marks!
Now I'm waiting for the Apple Gigabit USB Adapter. I know we're limited to 480mbps over USB, but that would still be a nice boost.30 of 35 people found this useful

OSX 10.6 Snow Leopard Problem Solver, too!
Written by DG from San Rafael

Bought this originally for my MB Air, and it works great for those few remaining hotels that don't have wi-fi yet, but it also solved the problem of the loss of Appletalk in Snow Leopard for my older network laser printer. Using this created a separate USB Ethernet setting I could dedicate to the printer, while still maintaining the regular ethernet port for my cable modem.
So, it's not just for road warriors, but also a handy gizmo for people that aren't ready to upgrade their old network printers, too. Guess I'll have to get another for my MB Air, now!24 of 26 people found this useful
