This Apple USB Ethernet Adapter works with the Mac Mini.

    Written by NM from Miramar

    4/12/2009

I own a Mac Mini that was purchased back in 2005. I recently upgraded the 256 memory with 1g and upgraded to Leopard 10.5.4 from Panther. A few months ago, there was a storm and my broadband cable modem was affected. My internet provider replaced the modem, however, my Mac Mini Ethernet connection showed not plugged in. I tried new ethernet cables and still it was not connecting. I took my Mac Mini to the Apple Store, but because it was out of warranty, the Tech only gave me advice, and referred me to authorized Apple dealer. The tech told me my ethernet port was broken. I called the dealer and he gave me an outrageous estimate, which did not make any sense to repair. As I was leaving the Apple store, I saw this product, so I asked the tech if this would work on my Mac Mini, and he said this product is only for the Mac Book Air and IT WOULD NOT WORK. But because of my persistence in wanting my Mac Mini to work and to spear the expense in purchasing or repairing my mac mini, I bought it anyway against the Tech recommendation. The Apple USB Ethernet Adapter was returnable if it didn't work. I came home and plugged it in and IT WORKED. In the Network preferences I turned off the built in ethernet and connected the USB ethernet using DHCP. I do not see any difference with the speed in the internet connection. IT WORKS GREAT!

I bought this two years ago, and it is amazing!
I use it to get connected to the internet where is no wireless or ethernet. I also use it to receive and send faxes. This thing has the highest quality ever! Also, it works great with OS 10.6

    Tip top product

Works very well indeed without any fuss. An attractive price for what it is and what it does.
It's silly I know but I must add that, from an aesthetic point of view, it is lovely to look at, hold and touch!

OSX 10.6 Snow Leopard Problem Solver, too!

Written by DG from San Rafael

Bought this originally for my MB Air, and it works great for those few remaining hotels that don't have wi-fi yet, but it also solved the problem of the loss of Appletalk in Snow Leopard for my older network laser printer. Using this created a separate USB Ethernet setting I could dedicate to the printer, while still maintaining the regular ethernet port for my cable modem.
So, it's not just for road warriors, but also a handy gizmo for people that aren't ready to upgrade their old network printers, too. Guess I'll have to get another for my MB Air, now!

Works with a 2009 Mac mini

I've been using a Mac mini running Mac OS X Server as a house-hold/small business Internet gateway and mail-server but really needed a second Ethernet port.

I bought the Apple USB Ethernet Adaptor and found that it does work really well on the (2009) Mac mini and at £19 is reasonably priced as well.

No LED light to check whether network is alive

Written by HM from New York

    20/03/2009

    Good design and compact size.

However there's no LED light to see whether the connected network is alive. This is iritating for me.

And though this is not a review, I wish Apple include this into the package of MacBook Air. (Or make a discount if you purchase this simulatenously)

    Works with MacBook too!

The ethernet jack on my 3-year-old MacBook (2GHz Intel Core Duo, running 10.5.6) stopped working, so I went to an Apple Retail Store to buy one of these adaptors. The staff told me it only works with a MacBook Air, but I was desperate and ignored their warnings. Thank God I did because it works perfectly! So even if you don't have a MacBook Air, buy this adaptor with confidence. It totally works!

    Perfect for Linux

Written by MO from LA COLLE SUR LOUP

I love this device: beautiful, cheap, light, and above all, it works out of the box if you are using Linux (2.6.26 and above). You just plug it in and you have a new eth1 network device.

I seemed to get the same download bandwidth than with my regular Ethernet connector.

This device is so much lighter that the one from D-Link (and others), and much more solid than Linksys'. I also recommend it on my blog.

Once again off to the apple store to replace it. Of course may end up with one that doesn't work out of the bag like last time. Why does this have to be proprietary so you can't even test it without having another Air? Best reason not to buy an air is this dongle.

Works Great on Dual G5 with 3rd Party Driver

    Written by PK from Vancouver

    19/02/2009

Bought one of these for my Dual G5 running 10.5.6. Plugged it in - device was recognized in System Profiler and showed up in the Network System Preference. Only problem: it said the ethernet cable was unplugged. It wasn't and the switch showed a valid 100BaseT connection. I then tried the adapter in a Core Duo iMac also running 10.5.6 and it fully worked.

Mr. Google helped me find an open source driver. I installed the driver on the G5, rebooted and now the Apple USB Ethernet Adapter works perfectly! Apple may intend it for use with the MacBook Air, but inside is a pretty standard chipset. The only problem is the Apple supplied drivers in 10.5.6 favour Intel systems and work poorly (as in don't work) on PowerPC.

    An adapter that actually works!

    Written by AD from SALFORD

I had previously tried two other makes of supposedly Mac-compatible USB ethernet adapters before I bought this version. They were both rubbish.

This one does exactly what it's supposed to - give you full speed 100mbps ethernet. None of the others I have tried come close, the best achieving 1MB/s. This Apple adapter easily gets 11.7MB/s over my LAN, which is indistinguishable from built-in ethernet. Top marks!

Now I'm waiting for the Apple Gigabit USB Adapter. I know we're limited to 480mbps over USB, but that would still be a nice boost.

    + MBA = excellent

Stayed at a Hotel in NY and their wireless network was patchy then it didn't work.

I had my MacBookAir with me and that doesn't have an ethernet cable.

Found this device at the apple store, hooked up to the MBA quickly and effectively and then connected in to the wired network at the hotel.

    Fantastic

    Written by EG from Kalamazoo

The ethernet port on my Late 2006 MacBook gave out today after two years of faithful service. I use my computer a lot, so it's probably had the equivalent of 2.5 to 3 years of work. I stopped by the store and picked up one of these adapters after reading reviews of their use with a fully updated Leopard. It works like a charm now, and I can continue using my Mac normally.

Yet another way that Apple has my back. Although I would have been better off with Apple Care (my mistake though).

It works on my G4 mac mini!

    Written by WC from TORQUAY

I'm using G4 1.42 mac mini, upgraded to 1GB RAM & loaded with Tiger OS. Lately the network port was struck by lighting & the machine was unable to get online. Thanks to this product, it saved the life of my mac mini!

All I needed was to upgrade my OS from Tiger to Leopard, subsequently I used my macbook to download Mac OS 10.5.2 Combo updates & installed the updates on my mac mini. Then I plug this adapter into my mac mini and it works!

YES It works on a macbook!!!!

I have a loose ethernet connection on my macbook. For the longest time I thought I had a bad cable. Very annoying. According to my research a new logic board is necessary to fix the bad plug. Sounds like a poor design. I had a loose plug almost from day one.

In any event I just purchased the Apple USB ethernet adapter and it work!!!!!!

When I first plugged it in nothing happened. I opened the network preferences page and activated "USB Ethernet". Bingo I'm connected. I don't know why Apple states on the package that this part only works with a MacBook Air.

    Great for network sharing

    Written by DO from Tuam

Using a wireless connection in a hotel with an iMac and wanted to share connection with a MacBook Air. The provider would not allow their hotspot to use identical connection details.

Connected this adapter to Air and a normal ethernet cable between the two Macs and set-up network sharing on the iMac.

    Worked perfectly.

Network port on my iMac got fried by lightning so I took a chance based on other reviews. Says its only for MacBook Air. Plugged it in and it hooked right up- just like a Mac product, "It just works!"

    iMac G5 1.8Ghz without iSight. Leopard 10.5.4.

    Thanks Apple!

    Works Well with MacBook Pro

I have used this adapter with no problems as expected with MacBook Pro. It is aimed primarily at the MacBook Air since it has no built in ethernet connection. Ethernet and USB are standards so expect it to work with any USB port. Works great and satisfied my need with no issues.

    Question...

    Written by KF from Ottawa

    22/07/2008

My MacBook was struck by lightning and the ethernet port died. This did the trick. Now, thanks to my business insurance, I can get a new computer or upgrade. I'd like to upgrade to the Air but I'm on a wired network. Does anyone know if it's possible to connect the USB Adapter through a USB hub or does it have to be directly connected to the Air's USB port? I have many different external HDs and printers connected to the hub...

    Thanks for any advice.
