Beautiful Display... Where's the Headphone Jack for Office Use ?
    • Written by MR from Rockledge
    • 13/03/2010

    Beautiful Display... bright and sharp.

But Apple left us business types out in the cold again by not providing a headphone jack for office environments. Do you think they know that not all of us are writing poems on mountain tops ? HA HA HA Definitely something I'd expect in a $900 monitor. Duh Apple.

Don't let the negative reviews stop you!!!

I read on here about how bad the glare/gloss was on this monitor. I was hesitant to pick this up, since I've been on my 17' Matte MBP for 2 years now. But let me reassure you, this monitor is amazing!!!! And the gloss/glare is a total non-issue for home use, the benefits though are quite significant. The colors are amazing and the sharpness and crisp look of images and video is absolutely stunning!!! Pick this up, and i promise you won't be disappointed!

Don't buy this unless you have a windowless, lightless office

    • 6/03/2010

This thing is a freakin' mirror not a monitor. I would NOT buy it again. It causes me eye strain and the reflections massively interfere with viewing. After a few weeks of working with all my shades drawn, I will either return it or buy a an anti-glare film to stick on it. I have my matte MacBook Pro right next to it and there is no comparison. The MacBook Pro matte screen works, this one does not.

Apple will charge me a 10% restocking fee and make me pay for shipping it back if I want to return it. Not impressed.

    Great display, only one flaw....
    • Written by JR from Dalton City
    • 5/03/2010

Only flaw is cable too short. Running a mac Pro and found a solution by placing the tower on a glass printer stand beside my glass desk. Cable barely reaches. Other than that, it is beautiful and perfect in every way. I still give it 5 stars, because if cables were too long the laptop user would not like the extra cable, and if way too short, they can always be extended. Otherwise I've made it work and my pro is in a prominent place next to my desk where it stands as a monolith demanding respect for its beauty on its own merit.

Oh my gosh. I love this thing! It is pretty amazing. I got a MacBook Pro (yay!) and I also wanted an iMac. But I really didn't want two seperate computers. So I can just plug in my Pro and it's like having BOTH!! How cool!

    Great display/monitor!
    • Written by BW from Antioch
    • 2/03/2010

Reason for purchase: I bought a 13-inch aluminum Mac Book Pro last summer. I love it. I later saw the iMac and wanted one because the screen was vibrant and seemed easier to view after hours of typing. The laptop is great, but for me, screen viewing isn't very easy on the eyes after several hours. The information regarding tethering of display to laptop was a great solution and, as I'm a doctoral student typing out a dissertation, I can work for hours (without glasses) and not get a headache! Movies and music played through the display are awesome too.

I can't think of any cons yet. The price was a little steep but worth it for the quality of picture. It was packaged well. The set up is simple. The colors are vibrant. It took a minute or two to optimize resolution and size for my desk position and distance. Once done, it looks wonderful.

Cables aren't a problem - they might be "short" per other reviews, but how long do you need them to be?

There are 3 USB ports on the back of the monitor I've not had to use yet. I'm just using the ports on my laptop for now.

I have a wireless keyboard and mouse, and now I basically have a iMac when I need a desktop, and a macbook pro when I need my laptop. Awesome.

I made the PC to Mac switch last summer and I'm really glad I did.

    Wonderful display, but limited applicability
    • Written by PG from Castle Rock
    • 28/02/2010

This is a beautiful display, and the integrated camera and speakers make it great.

However, I wanted to use it with my Mac Mini. It would work fine, but I would need to move the Mini out from the conceal location under my desk, and put it right on top. That is because the cables are very short - about one meter. While there are aftermarket extensions for the Mini display port cable (not on this site), there are also bundled cables for the speakers and the microphone, and you would need to extend these too. All in all, too much hassle. This product is designed for the limited market of those with MacBooks who want to use a big monitor. It is not flexible enough for my use.

    Excellent Display!

Most people reviewing this are not reviewing it on the display itself but the compatibility issues they are having. With a little research any problem can be solved. I have the older 13" Macbook with mini DVI. I purchased this monitor and it works seamless with my Macbook. The color, resolution, and everything in the description is true and this display really comes to life. Even comparing it to other monitors, Dell, etc., there is no comparison. If you have a DVI connection on your Mac, you'll need the Atlona AT-DP200 convertor. Its the only mini display port to DVI convertor on the market. If you have a mini DVI connection then you'll need the AT-DP200 and a mini DVI to DVI cable from the Apple Store. Any other connection can be made if you dont have the mini Display Port on your Mac. Get the convertor and you'll be set, just do the research.

    Absolutely Beautiful

I love the extra USB slots, the sound, and the picture. It's an absolutely beautiful monitor if you have the extra cash.

The reason I only give it 4-stars is the price point is high, but if you can afford it (and don't work in an area where bright light hits the monitor), do it.

I had been running my MacBook Pro 13" for the past few weeks on my Samsung 22" T220 monitor when I walked into the Apple Store the other night to purchase a Skin for the MacBook..30 minutes later I walked out with the Monitor instead...The richness and vibrancy of the monitor is absolutely stunning..I had done some research and the only common complaint had been the cost...I agree that 900$ is not cheap..but after seeing the difference compared to my old monitor, its worth every penny.

I have a MacBook Pro and Cinema Display (with external keyboard and mouse) and they work perfectly together. Its like having a desktop and laptop in one computer. You can take all the work you do at home and bring it places, and bring work you do anywhere else home to work on it later. Absolutely perfect. Never had any glare problems, but if you dont like the gloss, you can get a matte cover....

    TOO MUCH GLOSS
    • Written by AS from San Francisco
    • 12/02/2010

Argh. I just started a new design job and they have me working on this giant glossy screen. It's driving me nuts with the reflections from windows behind me, people walking around, etc. It's extremely difficult / impossible to focus on my work and ignore the reflections and gives me an instant headache from eye strain. When I get a full time offer I hope I can request for this to be switched out for a matte screen.

I just had back surgery and could not make a visit to the store to see and ask questions so I just read the reviews here. Once I could make a visit to the store i walked in and bought without asking any questions. I am home now working and it is just the perfect companion for my macbook pro. Completely Amazed!

I have no idea what to say other than it is just awesome. Indeed, you could save money by buying a non-Apple monitor with similar quality, but it would not have the built in iSight and mic, and of course, the Apple logo :)

To start this an amazing display the colour accuracy and clarity are incredible. the iSight camera, speakers, mic, and USB hud are great additions. However it would great to see an adapter for DVI use with older macbook pros and Mac pros, as well as a either a longer cable or cable extension. in a whole great product but just a few things to work on

I've recently acquired my display second-hand. Less than a year old and in mint condition and for £200 less than new. I would have bought one full price had I not bought this, I just feel smug!

I'd tried out the display countless times in-store and simply loved it. I use it with my MacBook. The display itself is simply great with brilliant resolution. I've found that I take my MacBook downstairs less and less as I dont want to use it without the display.

My only gripe is the USB ports. I would have preferred USB ports on the side of the display rather than have to keep fiddling around the back.

Brilliant image, sound ok but needs line-out port.
    • Written by KD from Leyton
    • 19/01/2010

The image on the screen is absolutley BRILLIANT!! I was hesitating over the price a little but have no regrets buying it. I now use my 15" MacBook Pro in clamshell mode and get to expeience OS X they way it was meant to be experienced - on a big screen with lots of floating windows and spaces. The smaller 15" screen size on my MBP always meant I was trying to fill the screen with whatever app I was working on which as we all know is more of a MS Windows thing, but having the 24" display now is like I've got a completely new machine.
Unfortunatley it looses one star for the audio specs. I am fortunate enough to have a Bose 2.1 sound system grace my desk and I certainly don't expect a few small speakers built into a screen to match the sound quality of a Bose, but it does mean that I have to use my headphone jack on the MBP to connect my speakers. Not a deal breaker, but it would certainly have been a much neater solution for the screen to have a line out port for the audio, and possibly a headphone and microphone jack. I can imagine the fiddling around the back of a Mac Mini that would be required for those users who like to use a headset for iChat / Rosetta Stone / etc. A very small addition electronically that would bring about huge useability benefits.

    Best monitor I've ever owned
    • Written by DB from Los Angeles
    • 16/01/2010

Let me first say this: If you didn't read the specs before you ordered and didn't realize this monitor didn't work for you computer - that's your fault, not Apple's. Also, they have a return policy for a reason, so use it and stop complaining.

    On to the actual review...

The monitor is so sharp I cannot believe it. I don't know if it's the LED backlighting, the quality of the LCD panel or a combo of both, but everything is so sharp and crystal clear, I couldn't ask for a better picture.

Add on top of that the built-in power adapter, the speakers (which are surprisingly good), the iSight and the USB hub and this monitor offers more bang for the buck than you would think at first glance.

If you have a new MBP and the means, this is definitely the monitor for you.
