Awful product - DO NOT BUY!

    • Written by from Milton Keynes

This product is absolutely terrible! I do not understand why Apple are still selling it?! Bought one of these to connect my laptop to my TV and it worked fine for about a month then just stopped working. Returned the product and exchanged it for another one and THE SAME THING HAPPENED! AGAIN!! Such a shame as I do not know of any other cable to connect my macbook to my TV for a minimum cost (although £25 is still steep for a tiny wire).

Save you're time and money and do not buy this unless you have the time and patience to keep returning it to Apple every month to swap it for a new one.

Have read so many reviews on this product and 90% of people who have owned it have had the exact same experience. Just going by the reviews on this page, you can see that it is utterly useless!

    A truly useless product

    • Written by from London

I should have read the reviews before buying this!

Mine was purchased with my new MacBook Pro over a year ago, but have only recently got round to trying it out. It didn't work. A trip to the Genius Bar at my local Apple Store proved that the lead was faulty. In their favour, Apple did agree to refund the cost even though it had been purchased over a year ago.

However I feel strongly that Apple should not be promoting a product like this. I would have given it no stars but I had to give it some rating. I won't be getting another one.

    Not worth buying

    Firstly, the good aspects.
The Belkin Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter does it's job well, to a certain extent.
It does what it says it does, mirrors your computer or uses a HDMI display as a second monitor.
But, the cable can easily stop transmitting video at the slightest push of the plug, even if it is still plugged in.

Also, no audio goes through the converter as it is only receiving video through the DisplayPort of the Mac, meaning that the audio aspect of the HDMI renders useless and external cables or other methods are required to get the audio working (though this is not really needed if you are using an HDMI display as a secondary monitor, but more if you want to mirror your display).

Overall, the quality of the video it displays is high and it gets the job done and is great for watching movies on a larger HDMI display. But, be mindful that this product is extremely similar if not the same to any cheaper Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter on the market and being honest, this product is too expensive for the job that it performs.

    Works great!

    • Written by from Vancouver

This product has been working great for me!
Aside from having to manually set up audio and video to mirror my mac (on the first use) its just plug in and go!
I've had it for over a month now and its still working great.
A little overpriced but thats true of all things apple.

Nothing but signal problems. Connector is not firm at back of my Mac mini. I'll be taking this back and purchasing a different product. Don't buy it.

    False Hope

    • Written by from Troutdale

This product is horrible! Bought it online, had to troubleshoot why the sound didn't work, fixed that and then not even two weeks later the product won't connect to my tv! Everything works, tried the hdmi cable with my dvd player, worked. Switched hdmi ports on the tv that work with the dvd play, no signal. Tried it with my roommates brand new macbook air (which worked perfectly with the the adapter when we first got it), no signal. The product gives you only about two months if you're lucky. Avoid at all costs.

    Disappointed beyond £25.00

    • Written by from london

I have had the Belkin Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter for less than 3 months and as other has said it is not working. I paid £24.99 for something that does not even last 6 months. For all Apple say about their products or associated product as being the best, I can say that they are letting us down with this shuddy products.

Apple! WHat do you think you are playing at endorsing such lo quality and poorly user rated products?
It goes against everything Apple stands for to sell such poorly made and unreliable products.

Shameful, appalling, i'm so disappointed. It seems impossible to buy a Mini DP > HDMI cable that lasts over 2 months.

    No audio

    • Written by from Liverpool

Just received mine today. I knew about the bad reviews but I didn't believe Apple would allow themselves to market a poor quality item. I was wrong.
Incidentally , as the goods were faulty I am entitled to the return postage refunded by law. I will let you know if they are to do this.

Can not express how confused I am over Apple selling this item knowing it has proved to be everything Apple are not.

Failed to function properly right after purchase. The connection seems to be loose even when fully plugged into the thunderbolt slot on my Macbook Pro. The view on the my Tv would come on and off. Tested using another HDMI cable and another HDMI slot on TV, the problem is most certainly the adapter.

Broke first day of use - would give 1/2 star if possible

    • Written by from Needham

I bought this adapter at the Apple Store near me so we could play movies on our t.v. from the computer. First day of use, my son was using it to put his video game up on the t.v. and the MiniPort end came loose and no longer worked. VERY disappointed. This adapter should be more rugged than this.

Literally used this adaptor under 10 times and it has already stopped working. Truly pathetic. I would expect this from a cheap adaptor but not from a 25 pound belkin from apple, very very unimpressed, do not buy this product, everything about it is bad, the mini display port male end is flimsy, and has fallen out from the plastic housing, kind of like apples chargers (sort that out as well, apple)

Like some of the other reviews suggest, this product is way overpriced. I would expect such cheap manufacturing from a cheap $5 eBay purchase straight out of china. Funny how apple has not yet responded to this by providing a better alternative.

    Do Not Buy!

    • Written by from London

It is a shame this is on the apple.com official site.
I purchased this adapter with a MacBook Air in September of 2013. While I have successfully connected my 2008 iMac to a TV with a cheap adapter from ebay, this product, endorsed by the apple store, has not worked once. More recently attempted uses seem to relate to a crashing computer. DO NOT BUY.

Why Apple would use such a useless Mini DisplayPort connection for their customers to join the MacBook Pro to a HDTV, I cannot fathom. Paid $35 from an Apple store for this product, and was unable to make any connection with it. Then I read the 62 pages of complaints and rants about the Thunderbolt port and realized it was not the Belkin connection that is faulty, but the laptop itself. We are likely going to purchase a cheap $400 laptop so that it can be connected to the TV with an ordinary HDMI cable and we can watch downloaded movies on the big screen like other people!!

I expect more from an adapter that cost $35! (And probably cost 50 cents to make). Belkin, are you reading these reviews?! Where is the quality control!?
