    Elegant and useful!

    • Written by from Bath

My main goal in setting up my new desk space was to keep it elegant and clean. This unit made it possible. I've got it under a Thunderbolt display, which enables me to slightly elevate the screen in a way that you can't with the stock foot from Apple. Plus, I'm able to keep my keys, iPhone, charging cables, etc. behind the mesh gate instead of strewn all over my desk. Great for those looking to keep a tidy work area!

OK, but a few quality control issues

    • Written by from WARWICK

I bought four of these, and of the four, one came without a set of screws, which didn't really matter as I didn't require the screws in the front for two of them.

They're beautifully packaged, and do the job of lifting the monitor to a nice working height well. So no complaints there.

However, I don't know whether I was just unlucky, but in two of the four cases it was almost impossible to fit the shelf into the slots as it was easily 5mm too wide. It required some brute force to make it go in. I appreciate that it needs a tight fit, but this was a little excessive.

Another quirk was that the supplied hex (or Allen) key didn't fit the heads of the screws. Given I had three sets of screws to play with and none of them worked, that seemed pretty strange to me. Not a major drama - that's what toolboxes are for - but odd nonetheless.

So something might be a bit wonky in quality control, but now that they're built I'm happy and they're doing the job that I wanted them for.

    Good product- poor finish

    • Written by from Northcote

Like other reviews of this product, I like the design and thought put into this product (after all, I bought it!).

However, the finish of the rubber/ plastic edges of the shelf left a bit to be desired. There were also small, but notable dints and scratches throughout the product.

I've bought TwelveSouth products before and they have been of high quality. This one though doesn't maintain this.

I think it's great. Wish it was taller.

    • Written by from Glenside

I almost didn't buy this because of the reviews on the fit. It went together very easily. My only issue is the height. I would have liked it taller and a door that drops down in the front. Or maybe a tray that slides out to put my phone on. Otherwise it's very nice.

    A surprisingly nice, useful item

    • Written by from Tallahassee

When I first saw these advertised, I thought "what a rip off, $80 for a metal box to sit your computer on?" Then, they started to look a bit useful. I had the money, so I ordered one for my late 2012 27" iMac. I absolutely love it. It completely hides my LightScribe DVD burner and a powered USB hub. It really provides a very nice clutter-free desktop. It raises the screen height to a nice level even with the 27" display, and that further clears even more desktop space. Nice piece. Worth the money.

    A must-have for an iMac

    • Written by from Edmonton

This stand is very beautiful from the packaging to its full installation. It is very easy to arrange and elevates my late 2012 iMac to the right height. My desk is now very neat after the Apple USB Superdrive, TB portable HD and a USB Hub gone into the storage. Its a matter of opening the front faceplate to get access to the devices therein. Very good design just like every Twelve South's products.

    Great Elevation Stand

    • Written by from Singapore

Does what it says! It's a good, stable stand. Having the iMac up higher helps with my posture, and the little cubby in the front is pretty great for stashing things which you use only occasionally but want to have close at hand.

Some minor cosmetic issues with paint keeps it from being perfect, but I heartily recommend the product. :)

This drive is good size and fits on my key chain perfectly. It's robust, stylish and it seems to be very well built. The speed is great, too.

Perfect for matching Cinema Display/Thunderbolt display with an iMac

    • Written by from Neutral Bay

I bought this to allow my Cinema Display to sit at the same height and beside my iMac. For this purpose it is ideal. The aluminium drawer that slides into the centre of the stand can be adjusted to one of six levels. The cinema display sits lower than the iMac, and therefore I set the level of the stand to ensure both screens were at the same level.

Personally I think the iMac screen is ever so slightly too high for eye level, and the cinema display sits slightly too low. But the iMac height cannot be changed. This is a good compromise.

I wouldn't use this stand for an iMac personally because I think it would only make the height too high.
It can however be set up to allow the iMac to sit on the very lowest level, which would provide neat storage without changing (or slightly increasing) the iMac eye level. Probably too costly for this though.

Other comments have noted that it's a tight fit. I purchased one from the Apple Store that had a scratch on it, and was also tight fitting. I returned it and the second one didn't have either issue.

Took a point off for cost and the fact the first one I purchased had a scratch.
Very thankful for Apple's superb return policy.

    Great for small desks

    • Written by from Toronto

I have my 27' iMac on what could be the smallest desk dimension available at IKEA. My iMac accessories such as ext. HDD and ODD were just scattered on my desk until I got this neat gizmo - with my iMac base set on the highest height setting on HiRise, I now have decent room to put both my peripherals + other goodies as well.

I would have to point out though it felt quite overpriced for what it offers.

    CRACKING PIECE OF KIT

    • Written by from Leicester

Was reluctant to spend £70 at first, but well worth it. It has raised my Thunderbolt display to a comfortable viewing level now. I keep my Mac Mini inside it, it looks really neat and tidy on the desk now.

Don't see the point of using the screws as the magnets hold perfectly.

Going to buy the BackPack shelf next or maybe even two.

    Strong and Reliable

    • Written by from Warrington

The HiRise gives an extra aesthetic appeal to your desktop while heightening the screen at 6 customisable levels. I was a little disheartened by what looks like to be a strong glue that holds a rubber seal on. The allen key provided is weak and wears easy and doesn't provide much pivot support to tighten the screws. Leaving that aside, a brilliant piece of kit.

    Functional and Stylish

    • Written by from Canton

The product does exactly what it is meant for although not much more. The craftsmanship is excellent, sturdy, and stylish. When using the monitor looks at bit more heavy than I would want. It takes away some from the sleek-ness of the monitor, however, a necessary trade off to elevate to a comfortable height.

    Same Fit and Finish Issues

    • Written by from White Lake

I also have issues with the fit, the side of the top and bottom, at front and back, do not align properly. You make one side's top and bottom line up, say front R then the back L is thrown off. Fortunately the mis-alignment is not enough to cause problems putting the back and front covers on, they do not show significant gaps and stay relatively flush. Sliding the shelf in was more difficult than need be, maybe spraying some silicone on the plastic wrapped edges would help? It didn't require my full body weight as another's review.

The screws seem on the small side, and look fragile as though they could strip even being a hex and not slotted or phillips. Definitely be careful and don't over tighten the back plate or your iMac may be permanently locked into the HiRise.

These two issues have me knock it down one star each. It definitely tidies up my desktop as I can place a TB HDD across the top and not have to reach around either side to turn it on. I placed a USB hub inside the HiRise out of site, and another TB HDD on the 12 South BackPack behind my iMac.

Overall a great idea but for $80 QA should be better!

    20 inch 2006 Imac

    • Written by from Cordova

Great product and well made with easy setup. I like the magnetic doors which can be secured or left on with just the magnetic covers. It lifted my screen up which really made a difference in the view of my old iMac . This company has some quality products and am very impressed with the craftsmanship and design. It got my desktop cleaned up allowing me to put items like my keys, iPhone, or small external drives to be placed out of the way. I highly recommend this product.

    Very Good - But

    • Written by from ILFRACOMBE

Lets admit it the one thing the iMac requires is a height adjustment. Not a show stopping problem on a 27" iMac but still a major niggle if long hours are spend working at the machine.

The riser itself is very well made and as with most of 12 South kit very well thought out. Good material match to the iMac and simply to put together.

But and heres the but, it does not seem to blend with the iMac, it just looks slightly out of place, a little too industrial?

It raises the unit very well, provides good balance, but something is just missing?.

Overall the best riser on the market, but could be slightly less industrial in its looks.

    Elevated praise

    • Written by from Telford

I purchased two of these HiRise stands when I first saw them advertised. At the time they were not available in the UK so I ordered them directly from Twelve South in the US. They arrived within a week for a flat delivery rate of $25 (taxes do apply). I have one each for my two MacPro displays and they have elevated the displays to a much more ergonomic level for viewing and working. They are both stylish and versatile (even the boxes they come in are versatile). I use one to house a 3TB Time Capsule, the other various smaller Apple bits and pieces, but because of this I have not used the little screws to attach the front panels, no need they are magnetic. Other items sit on the flat tops. Twelve South thought of everything.

    Brilliant.

    • Written by from Peterborough

I just purchased the HiRise for my late 2012 27" iMac. I have the shelf on the 4th step from the bottom and have hidden my LaCie Porsche 3TB Hard-drive that I am using as a Time Capsule on the bottom of the HiRise and then on top of the iMac Stand I have put my Apple Superdrive. I also have various cables hidden inside as well.

This product is very well designed, worth the price and looks perfect with an iMac.

It hides the cables very well and gives my iMac that boost in hight that I needed. The only thing that could make it better would be to do a additional insert that could raise the total height of the HiRise.

A definite must buy accessory if you appreciate apple style minimalism, design and use.
