    Brilliant

    • Written by from London

Great little speaker, great build and sound.
Dock is really nice with the genius moving moving lighting, works really well.
Didn't try much airplay because haven't wifi but I get to connect it with the B&W app and before connect it to wifi it connect to my iPhone 5s and really works well,a few strange things after a while but overall is ok.
Probably a high volumes is a bit of distortion but for using it in the room you are a normal loud volume is more than great, just brilliant.
And now at almost half price.
    Isn't a reason to don't buy it.

Z2 the best little airplay speaker!

    • Written by from Fairfax

I picked up the Z2 last night from the Apple store, I originally wanted the bigger A5 but when I saw these have been marked down by half ant only $199 I couldn't pass it up. I was a bit skeptical at first because this is the entry level model but when I heard it I was very impressed. I listen to industrial music mostly I also tried some classical and world music they all sound immaculate. The instruments and the vocals the violin drums and synths all sound like you are there and it has a very natural base and mids and treble..I like the fact that it has lightning connector I will charge my phone on it from now on it freed up one plug by my bed.i uses it on my iPad iPhone and also as my imac speaker..highly recommended I don't know how long this price break will last.

Reasonable sound - Appalling wireless connectivity.

    • Written by

The Z2 speakers from my use has reasonable sound. The mistimes are full and the treble is balance, with subtle bass. Sound does get very muddy at higher volumes, particularly in the treble end, to the extent that I would describe it disappointing compared to B&Ws flagship Zeppelin Speaker.

Regardless, the wifi connectivity is appalling. Even with the Airport Express in the same room, airplay regularly dropped out, and would fail to connect until rebooting the speaker. Connecting directly to the inbuilt wifi, the same issue occurred. I have seen in several B&W speakers (including the A5) and in every case, the wireless cuts out anything as soon as 5 minutes into a song. Having also tried a host of other Airplay speakers, including the Bose Soundlink, and AirPlay from an airport express, I know this is not an issue with the airplay technology itself, but with the wifi built into the speakers.

My advice? Plug in, connect via Ethernet, or don't buy it.

Great speaker let down by Airplay on ios

    • Written by from Sandbach

This is a brilliant little speaker. I bought the Z2 based on my experience with the B&W Zeppelin which I have in my living room which I love. The sound is fantastic for such a small speaker and the design is very attractive.

My only issue with the speaker is the poor airplay implementation on ios. Ok, this isn't directly an issue with the speaker but it may sway your choice if you're thinking go buying into airplay speakers; ios doesn't allow you to stream to multiple speaker at a time like itunes on a computer does. I was very disappointed to find this out, i was hoping to stream to my z2 in my kitchen and my zeppelin in my living room. It's shame this has been overlooked by apple as Sonos has always enabled streaming to multiple speakers and it is now compatible with google play music on android. I hope apple review this as the b&w airplay speakers really are excellent.

Bowers & Wilkins Sound Quality but...

    • Written by from Barcarena

PROS: Good Construction, Great Sound at medium level, decent bass, and good looking.
CONS: Sound at high levels but the best i have heard on this size, no bluetooth, only Apple device can connect, Airplay Issues

If you want a Good Dock for apple devices with great sound at medium sound level this is the right choice.

Really??? Only wireless G??? Returning this product

    • Written by from New York

Just bought the product. Looks beautiful and after plugging my iphone, sounds great!

But wireless connection....that is a whole other story. I would have to bring all my devices (mac, apple tv, iphone, printer, etc) to the slow Wireless G. This is a 2003 wireless technology already replaced by "n" in 2009. But the Z2 does not have it!

I will have to return the product next week. Shame. It looked good. But I feel cheated because they do not advertise in the box or the website this very important detail.

Cannot Use An iPhone With A Case Whilst Docked ... What's The Point Then?

    • Written by from Daly City

Let me to save you some frustration; avoid the Z2 until a redesign comes along. The dock is not properly designed or constructed to allow an iPhone 5 or 5s to fit with a small case or bumper into the dock for charging and playback. This means it is impossible to use the Z2 as advertised for charging your iPhone and playback of music housed on the iPhone when docked. Sure the sound is great, AirPlay is great, and setup is great. But, when the most basic design element is fatally flawed you should not waste your money. I'm a diehard Bowers & Wilkins fan too. It pains me greatly to pan one of their products. It's surprising to see their team so botched the design of the Z2. Such a shame.

    Excellent audio, wimpy wireless

    • Written by from Boston

I have no point of comparison with the more expensive B&W wireless speakers, but in absolute terms, the audio from the Z2 is excellent. I haven't been able to discern a noticeable difference in the quality between streaming via AirPlay and the direct connection to the player via the iPhone dock. Excellent for its size.

The wireless networking features are another story. The Z2's antenna system leaves a lot to be desired. I wasted an hour trying in vain to set it up only to realize that the wireless radio only operates on 802.11g while my router was configured to 802.11n-only mode on 2.4 GHz. Switching my router to mixed mode on 2.4 GHz got the player onto the network in the end. In my kitchen, where I keep the device, the wireless connection drops out occasionally whereas my laptop and IPad have no issues. It's far from inoperable, but I'm on the verge of running Ethernet to the device to eliminate the once-a-day cutout for a minute or two.

    Great sound in small spaces.

    • Written by from Windermere

I picked up a Z2 recently, replacing my Zeppelin Mini, it's predecessor. It's sound is superb for the purpose it fills. You will frankly get better sound from the larger B&W speakers such as Zeppelin Air, the A5 and the A7, but these units are much larger and much more expensive. The Z2 fills a perfect niche for a small space where you don't need to go overboard with A/V gear, but still want great sound. I have a small corner area in my kitchen that it is perfect for. I still have plenty of space on my countertops, but have a wonderful speaker system and area to dock and charge my iPhone. I also like that it's cabinet (compared to the Zeppelin Mini before it) now features a rubberized top and metal grill. This is much more durable and easy to clean for an area such as a kitchen that may be within 5 or 6 feet of a wet space. Easy setup through the B&W app, and very simple to either dock and play music, or stream through Airplay. You can even choose to play via Airplay while your iPhone or iPod is docked in the station. This is nice if you may be taking it on and off the dock frequently, and your music will continue to play. The lightning connection also swivels forward slightly so you will not damage your connection if removing your iPhone/iPod at a slight angle. Still a little pricey for an iPhone/iPod speaker dock, but I doubt that you will find one of this size that sounds so great and carries the Bowers and Wilkins name and backing. A small gloss riverbed stone style remote control is also included. A great speaker for expanding where you have quick music capability in your home. Highly recommend.

    Bowers and wilkins z2

    • Written by from Solihull

The Z2 you will find has a real good quality feel, it's got a good weight to it and ticks all the boxes for a quality build as you would expect spending £329.99.
I can't understand the people that have trouble setting these up as Airplay it's really simple.
Not as good as a Zepplin understandably , I have both but sits in the lounge not noticed.
The wife wouldn't let me have another Zepplin.
In short you won't be disappointed with the sound, but it does have limitations on volume

    Amazing [Airplay/iOS] Speaker

    • Written by from Platte City

Bowers & Wilkins has once again made an amazing speaker system. I chose to purchase this speaker over the A5, because I still like to have the choice to use my speaker as a dock (this comes in handy especially when internet is down or you take it where internet is nowhere to be found: I know... there are still such places). The speaker has unparalleled balance, from solid bass to warm mids to crystal-clear highs. The only negative (if such a word applies to this system) is at maximum volumes, there is some distortion, but that applies to across the board, especially at this price. It is also worth to mention that, at half-volume, the B&W Z2 fills a room with a very spacious and warm sound; but if party-level sound is what you are looking for, the B&W Z2 (or A5 or A7 for that matter) is not your speaker - go for Beats by Dre where volume surpasses quality.

Wow! Speaker quality beyond my wildest imagination.

    • Written by from Portland

I just purchased the Z2 after four years of vacillation and reading useless reviews. Finally a diligent relative went and listened to at least a dozen contenders for "best Airplay speakers" and concluded that the Bowers & Wilkins Zeppelin series had the best sound [within a reasonable budget]. I opted for the Z2 because it is smaller in size than the Zeppelin itself and has an option for light gray color.

The quality is something previously unknown to me except in high end audiophile equipment. There is a crispness and clarity of tone that allows you to hear every note and which works equally well with vocal as well as instrumental music. It will fill a room and, yet, not seem overwhelming.

Set up is so easy that some people will feel disoriented [see previous reviews]. You download an app from the B & W site; THEN you plug in the speaker; the app will ask you to select your WiFi network and password, and "ecco" your speaker will appear in the iTunes list.

    Excellent

    • Written by from McHenry

A great product from a great company. I have been listening to mine for a few days now. I am listening to a variety of genres trying to find a flaw with the sound. So far, nothing. I am not sure why people are having problems with this. Setup was really easy. If you're familiar with B&W, the quality is on par with everything else. If you're not familiar with the brand, it's time for you to make the switch. You will be glad that you did.

    Not what I was expecting

    • Written by from Cobb

Being an owner of the original Zeppelin mini, I waited several years -and had great expectations- for a fresh and updated version of the small B&W speakers but I am very dissapointed with the final product: this speaker system doesn´t allow you to rotate your idevice to watch movies horizontally, the app to setup airplay needs a lot of work and most important: it´s very expensive. If I had to spend over $399 I rather put $100 extra to get the A5. I´ll return it and will buy an Apple airport xpress and plug it to my old zeppelin mini aux port, that´s airplay functionality under $100 usd!! because the Z2 (in my opinion) is just a super expensive charging dock. Sorry B&W, I´ll wait a few more years to give you my money again.
    Pros:Good sound
Cons:Same ol´ design, useless dock, app needs a major update, expensive.

    Small with good sound quality

Big fan of B&W. The sound is good in small size. I'm not sure if A7 has a much better quality. However, this one is much cheaper, andI think it's the best speaker at this price.

    Good speaker, but..

    • Written by from Chicago

This is a really great speaker! It has very nice sound quality and is a lot smaller than I expected (a good thing!). I've had the B&W A7 previously and while the sound quality of the Z2 is not as good, it's pretty hard to tell the difference. The only complaint I have is that this product is a little difficult to set-up. There are not very many instructions other than Airplay options, and it took a little bit to figure out how to play music through the dock and not Airplay. All in all though a good speaker and I do not regret my purchase!

    Musical wonder but technical blunder...

    • Written by from Quebec

Packaging "à la Apple". Musical quality is better than anything I had had before in this format: Boston Acoustics, Bose, Geneva Labs. Plays louder than I would have thought considering the size, same for the BASS, it's very decent for the size. The sound is precise, just like B&W's MM-1. Me being literate in network settings and audio video connections, I had to look for an online instructions manual as my Z2 would not connect to to my WiFi (Airport Extreme most recent version)... in the end, I had to disable the 5 Ghz to be able to join anything other than the Guest Network. That's a shame, Macs have had 5 Ghz for years now.

Next, I have not managed to be able to play anything from the dock whether from iPod Touch, iPod nano, or iPhone 5. The Z2 does not switch input either from the button on the back or from the remote. I like the thing and I want it to work, I am starting to think my unit could be defective.

One other thing, the online instructions mention charging whilst docked with the Z2 off... does not work for me... with it being in a bedroom, I want a WiFi free zone during the night so it's disappointing...
