    Far too expensive

Way to expensive not quite worth the money for only controlling one thing at a time.

    Very impressed

    • Written by from Closter

I bought 4 of these to control various lights at our house, one being the outdoor landscape lighting. They work great.

I am an average computer user, I understand how things work and that's about it. No problem at all setting it up. They detected my networks right away.

Our house has 3 Airport Extremes, and these are spread out on different airports (same internet provider, it's just that one airport can't send the signal to all the places so we needed 3). They all show up right away on my iPhone app.

I set up the outdoor landscape lighting to turn on at Sunset, off at 1AM. Works great. Very nice to have that feature.

The rules you can set are pretty neat. If you are using it as a "somebody's home security feature" you can set the rules to turn lights on and off at different times on different days. And it's very easy. Those other timer type things from Lowes take forever to program. This took about 30 seconds. Programs just like the alarm clock on the iPhone.

Overall, great product so far. I could see adding a few more of these to the house.

Great idea. But only that. Stay away from WeMo until fixed.

    • Written by from Cromer Heights

Well, if you want to save yourself a lot of grief and wasted time and ton of frustration, don't buy it and stay away from Belkin's WeMo until Belkin provides a fix. Here is why.

This may not apply to you. If you buy only one switch and connect it to a very simplest home WiFi network, chances are you'll be fine. My context is different.

I bought 6 (six) of the switches. My network has one central Apple Extreme router and then it is extended by four other Airport Extreme and Airport Express routers to ensure strong signal and great wireless coverage throughout my home. I'd consider my network both modern and complex (although setting it up is a breeze with the Apple routers.) Well, in this network context the six switches do not register properly with Belkin's cloud. And that's where the nightmare starts. Registering, resetting to factory settings, re-registering ... You need to follow this a number of times per each switch until it's done. Each switch may take up to 10-15 minutes if lucky to get fully registered. And you need to understand all possible tricks of killing the WeMo app, switching networks from wireless to mobile carrier and back. It takes time, patience, the workarounds how to get it working in case the stubborn switches do not register properly are not documented anywhere.

The problems above stem from the fact that with the current firmware in WeMo switches and the overall Belkin's cloud architecture, if your home wireless network has range extenders you're practically hosed. There is no way to tell the switch to register with the central router, and if it is not, it will not register in a way it can be then located on the 3G/LTE mobile carrier network outside of your home.

Works perfectly, exactly what I needed

    • Written by from Toronto

I've had the WeMo switch for 3 days and, although it hasn't been long, I'm happy with my purchase. The set up was as easy as the instructions on the box. I liked that even though I set a rule, I could turn the light on at any time and it would still turn off as per the rule's instructions. I've tested it with my phone internet and it's worked perfectly too. I also appreciate that I can buy each additional switch separately as the need arises; right now, I only need the one and that suits me fine. Only (slight) downside is that the unit takes up a little space; even plugged into the top of the outlet, it's made it hard to plug 3-prong items into the bottom. But it's a small price for the convenience it gives.

    So far so good

    • Written by from London

I've had the Weymouth for about a month now, and I'm liking the product very well.

As an electrician and IT specialist, I can see this product going places..

I've made three firmware upgrades and already I can see great improvements in the operation and remote control of the Wemo switches.

All issues have been address so far except one. I still have issues with access from the iOS from another access point other that what the Wemo switches are connected to..

Great so far... Looking forward to the Wemo wall switches due out soon

This is a great device to have if you have a purpose for it. It works very smoothly and installation is simple. The app was horrific for a bit, but they've fixed it with the latest update.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Belkin WEMO SWITCH!

    • Written by from Morgantown

Bought this to connect to my high end espresso machine, so I could preheat and or program wake up to my schedule! for under $50 I think this product is GREAT, GREAT, GREAT!!!
Only issue I've had relates to remote (ie outside of my LAN, for example driving home from work). Im sure my network is blocking access, but have been unable to rectify. Spoke with the MOST polite customer service ever, who attempted to elevate my question to higher level technicians, but failed to follow up.
Still, this product is worth the fact that I can essentially "turn on" my coffee maker from upstairs, so it heats up while I'm showering, and then premium capp is ready and fresh w/in 3 minutes before leaving for work. GREAT, GREAT, GREAT!!!!

    Nice idea but .....

    • Written by from Palmerston North

Nice hardware and functionality but this is not a robust product. I've had the same problems as several other reviewers :- switch disappears from app after a short time and has to be power-cycled; remote access could not be enabled. Documentation and help are inadequate. I also think that the app's user interface also needs a lot more work...

I'm surprised that Apple is currently promoting such an inadequately tested product.

Worst Excecution of a Great Idea I've Ever Seen

    • Written by from PORTLAND

Einstein said The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. That is also the description for the WeMo Setup. If you follow the directions you can get the WeMo network up. Getting the WeMo to recognize your WiFi network is highly problematic. After the 4th or 5th time it worked.

Mine also keeps saying there is a Software Update available even immediately after doing the update. I show that I have 1.12 so it should be current. FWIW after saying it had successfully installed the update, the iPhone App kept saying it was installing the update.

Now having done the update, the schedule works and I can operate the WeMo at home, but I can't turn on "Remote Access" Maybe it will work tomorrow!!!!! Insanity again.

    These are horrible!

    • Written by from Granada Hills

We have a large house and need home automation. This is terrible. We have four Apple Time capsules that all look like they are one. It works perfectly. Belkin told me I had to separate the 2.4 form the 5 and rename all as different wifi for these to work. We did buy 8, but that is not a huge amount. Apple should not sell these.

I have had my wemo's for a couple of months. They were very difficult to set up and all of a sudden they all failed after a couple of months and will not connect to wifi, followed all instructions no to avail - FAIL. It appears that approx 40-50% of buyers (based on amazon, engadget and other reviews) have very significant problems and are very unhappy with product and customer service.

    Great, but network/app Issues

    • Written by from Melbourne

Wemo is a great product, and points to a future where much more of our homes will be controlled by devices like these. At the moment it's sadly let down by the free app, which has a tendency to crash, lose switches, or require multiple refreshes to utilise its functionality. Other times, it works just fine. Go figure! My suspicions that this has to do with the total load on my wifi network at the time I want to use the Wemo app. A fully working functional app would win this five stars. As it is, it merits only three.

    mixed results

    • Written by from Harwich

I found these cumbersome to set up initially (i have 4 switches).
also suffers from flaky connectivity through the app; sometimes they grey out, sometimes they don't show up on the list, sometimes they are unresponsive... and sometimes they work!
I have 4 airport extremes dotted around the house to ensure full coverage. all my other wifi devices work perfectly. As an example- we have 22 philips hue bulbs... never a problem!
If, like me, you buy things and expect them to 'just work'; well in my experience- these don't :-(

    Great Concept

    • Written by from Havre De Grace

If you don't want to tear apart your wall & add a WiFi outlet or use these on the go, this product is perfect. Plu-In and use, very simple Set-Up too. I recommend the WeMo Insight if you are going to be using these several hours a day, those will show you usage & cost on the app. I use these for very simple purposes, exmp I have two space heaters pluged in for my pets and family when I am not home so I don't have to worry about getting cold or turning the object on or off. Switch is also great with IFTTT, a banner related app that can turn my heater on if Temp drops below or above Temp point, options are endless. Remember to have objects that can be turned on & off manually to the Switch otherwise it won't work. Most electronics have panels or touch screen and those items will not work with the Switch.

Poor quality device - regular reboots required

    • Written by from Ewell

Let's start with the good bits. Easy set up. iPhone app is good. Works well (to start with). So far so good... but it just stops working after a few days. I get it working nicely one weekend and by the following weekend it just isn't picked up by the iPhone app any more. I've applied all the firmware patches and it just drives me nuts. I bought it so I could wake on a Saturday and turn on a heater in a shed allowing it to get nice and warm before going out. I've had it now for 3 months and not once after a week's work have I been able to do that. Every time I have to go into a cold shed and reboot it. I've had enough. I'm going to try alternatives.

    Utter Junk!

    • Written by from Williamtown

Like most people who've written a review, I had nothing but trouble from these since I bought them. I bought 2 and they wouldn't join my network, constantly disconnected and generally caused me angst. Resetting does nothing helpful. Since buying them I've moved house so I lost receipts etc so no chance to return them. The only pleasure they gave me was when I destroyed them with a hammer!

Apple need to look at this product and decide if it meets Steve Jobs's credo of "it just works". In this case, it doesn't.
