    Sounds great but far from it.

    I read the reviews of this item before buying it so I expected slight difficulty in setting up this product. I'm very tech savvy so I was up to the challenge. I purchased two switches and a motion switch. After about 2 hours I had all three up and running plus created rules within the WEMO app. After about a month Belkin released a firmware update for the switches and an update on the app. At that point I was no longer able to control my switches unless I was on my home router. (Which defeats the entire sales pitch you can check if you turned things off after you left.) I then 3 weeks ago installed a new router and after 3 weeks of trying, holding down the connect button to reset the switch and the app crashing non stop I finally got one of the switches connected to my new router. I was able to control it with the app and then I unplugged it, moved it 20 feet to the living room and it no longer works on the network. (One of the set up trouble shooting suggestions was to move it closer to the router to program and then move it back.) Until Belkin can fix all the bugs, and there's a lot, with this product stay away. At this point I wish I never bought this product.

    Great concept, very buggy app and device

    Love the concept, bought two for the office. Lots of issues getting it to connect to our Wireless N only network (connected to others ok) which has a very long Key. Never did connect. Once connected to another WLAN sort of works but isn't reliable and saving schedules on the APP is quite buggy too.

    Love the quality of the device but it's not ready for prime time just yet.

    Works perfectly - very easy set up

    Belkin Wemo just works. Installation very straight forward after one glance at a simple instruction menu.

    Connected first time to the wireless network.

    Great product concept but more stability needed

    I have 3 WeMo switches and have used them for around 3 months. The WeMo app is on 3x iPhones (2x 5's and 1x 4S) and 2x iPods (2 and 4).

    He WeMo is a great concept, set up is easy and the app is nice and simple. Setting up rules is easy too (eg to activate at a certain time of day or day of week). Also the Internet (rather thang just local WiFi) is. Really neat easy to use feature.

    However there is a major problem.

    At least one of the three WeMo switches over the three month period i have had them goes wrong and needs manually re-booting every week. The reliability just isn't there for any remotely serious use.

    Come on Belkin - get your act together! Great concept but very poor execution. You can, and must, do better.

    Works as advertised

    I received the unit as a Christmas gift. Downloaded the app for my phone. Had a bit of trouble with the app not seeing the unit at times. However, an app update fixed the issue and everything works flawlessly. Now am using IFTTT to link it to the task I'm using it for, which is cool in itself.

    Nice idea but .....

    Nice hardware and functionality but this is not a robust product. I've had the same problems as several other reviewers :- switch disappears from app after a short time and has to be power-cycled; remote access could not be enabled. Documentation and help are inadequate. I also think that the app's user interface also needs a lot more work...

    I'm surprised that Apple is currently promoting such an inadequately tested product.

    Based on some of the other reviews, I am bracing myself for a somewhat hard time setting my 2 switches up and was very pleasantly surprised when it was a breeze -- it was literally plugging in the switches, download WeMo app from app store, find WeMo Wifi on Setting, open WeMo app. Voila! Would gladly fill my house with these switches if they are more affordable ; )

    The switches are excellent.

    These switches couldn't be easier to set up. After reading the included leaflet, it takes literally 30 seconds to get them going. I understand those having some issues on MAC-address filtered networks, but those people should also be clued-in enough to diagnose issues easily. MAC filtering has its place but usually suggests someone with a clue is in charge.

    I've used many of these types of switches before, both IR and RF based. These are fantastic for those of us who are constantly glued to our iPhones or iPads. Beats having to walk around with another remote.

    It would be nice if Belkin made a version with built-in dimmer. I imagine (much) more than half of these will be used with lamps, and many CFLs and LED bulbs are dimmable now, so it would be fairly useful to have a slider next to the on/off button.

    I'd also like to see proper iPad graphics put into the existing app (making it universal). I think it's lazy when large companies won't spend the extra couple of grand to develop a pretty ipad interface for functionality which already exists in the app.

    Better than a plug in timer!

    Works exactly as advertised. Easy to set up, simple to program. Turns on or off remotely with IOS app and can be combined with rules or timers. Recommended without hesitation.

    Big let down

    I got the device home and plug it.... it took a few good tries before it showed up on my network. After playing around with it i got it to work right... 3 minutes late it stop working all together.... it still does not show up on the network until I do the quick unplug and plug it back in trick... the device will will not stay on the network for more then 3 minutes before it shut down again. I must got a bad unit....

    Where do I start?

    Bought 2 of these. 1st one worked fine. I then made the big mistake of installing the second. What a shame I did. The dreaded "cannot find device" comes up every two days or so. I've given up rebooting the devcie as I have far more important things to do in my life.
    Schedule can only be setup incorporating BOTH switches. What use is that?
    Firmware keeps updating on one of the switches but it never completes.
    Wifi range is very poor. Belkin state: "WeMo devices should have the same or better range than most other Wi-Fi devices". This is not true in reality. Another Belkin statement: "Some routers take multiple attempts to acquire a connection". That's right blame it on other equipment. I've NEVER had to try and connect other devcies multiple times.

    If you have a boring life and need something to occupy your free time I strongly suggest you buy 3 of these. You will NEVER be bored again as instaaling them will take you ages and they cause errors every few days just to keep you active.

    Just doesn't work

    If you can get it to join your network, which is NOT as easy as Belkin say, it disconnects constantly. No other devices on my wireless have this problem. I strongly recommend against buying this. It's not ready for prime time.

    Perfect way to light up the room

    Traipsing through the house in the dark to get to the light in the corner is no fun; especially when you're prone to trip on toys the dog left in your path. However, with the Belkin WeMo app I can activate the light from my iPhone ... simply brilliant. The device is inexpensive enough that I've picked up a few for other rooms and added one module with the motion detection feature to the garage.

    Setup was a breeze and I like the ability to be able to schedule on/off times. The only issue I've run into was the light came on after I turned it off manually because there was a schedule that was supposed to turn off the light a few hours later. However, I just have to remember to disable the schedule if I go to bed early; and re-enable the schedule the next day. But that's a small inconvenience. Fix this issue and I'll gladly increase my rating to 5 stars.

    Easy Home Integration

    I now have two WeMo Switchs and I love them. They work perfectly on my home network and they work just as well remotely. Easy set up takes about 5 minutes per unit. I would have gave them 5 stars, but I think at $50 per unit, it's a little pricey. I've found them cheaper from internet stores.

    Why

    Work well in a wifi area with phone apps, but did not work at all when away from my wifi, liked the way to turn off and on and a timer set programme work well. But am going to take this back as it did not work as it was describe eg work any ware ?? Well it doesn't it a lot of money if it doesn't work

    Good idea but not there yet:
    1. You can not set it up remotely. In case your iPhone App crashed (or else), you cannot set WeMo up remotely. No web access, telnet..etc.
    2. You cannot have more than one locations and controlled by the same App on iPhone.
    3. Tech support not good. I emailed the (first) question above, they simply direct me to online support web page, which is useless.

    I am returning my WeMo.
