    Worst. Product. Ever.

    • Written by from Bedford

I figured that seeing this at an Apple store would lend some credibility to the value of the product, but not so. It has undocumented network requirements that render it useless unless they are met. They can only be found by extensive searching. Even then it's a long shot as to whether the thing will STAY working. Hopefully if you buy this product, your power will never go out, since trying to get it to work after disconnecting the power is a nightmare.

Great idea, flawed implementation. This is being returned ASAP.

    Belkin WeMo Update

    • Written by from Jersey City

I noticed quite a few people writing about the updates and thinking that the product is bad when it starts updating and seemingly would not recover. Well I just wanted to add my 2cents, I experienced the same thing and thought that I had a bad product as well. However, I left it in it's "update" mode overnight and tried accessing it the next day and it was fine. The problem is the update takes much longer than anyone knows or is saying. So just wait it out and it will work fine afterwards.
My problem is that I cannot access mine from outside of my home. Overall I like it for the rules that I could set on it and for my wife coming home to a well lit front door and home.

    Firmware update issue

    • Written by from St-Jean-Sur-Richelieu

Installed my new WeMo Switch. Connected to the wifi fine using the limited info in the package but then the app asked to do the firmware update... hours later still not completed. Ok, what now? Tried to unplug and plug back in. Left it trying all day just in case while I looked on the Belkin support site... couldn't find anything closely related to my issue. I found an unrelated issue support page that showed how to do a reset. Sure enough it worked for my problem... now it works well.

To do reset: unplug, press the restore button on top and maintain while plugging back in and hold for about 15sec... wait for reboot and it's ready to use.

    Almost perfect....

    • Written by from Forest Lake

Have got 5 WeMo Switches and a Motion Detector and have had zero problems getting them up and working.

Only issue seem to be that sometimes when I have pulled a switch from the PowerPoint it can lose its config......the Motion Detector keeps its config when moved.

Also the app doesn't let me change the name or icon of a device once setup.

Bring on the light switch and while your at it can you make them as Powerpoints so I can replace the ones I have in my wall and control them remotely....maybe even a powerboard would be cool to.

Also the scheduling is excellent but havnt yet tried IFTTT.

Works as advertised (I have four now!)

    • Written by from Emmitsburg

Love my wemo’s! I purchased two more to bring my total to four. I am unsure why some folks are having the issues that they are. I can easily control my switches when I am not on my home router with no problems and set-up is fairly easy. A few times I had to start the process again but all four our great. I love having some of the switches turn on everything at once since they share the same clock. Of course, if your wi-fi is down, your switches won’t turn on. I am getting more creative with them as I go. My daughter thinks she can magically turn on the lights!

Perfect way to light up the room

    • Written by from Austin

Traipsing through the house in the dark to get to the light in the corner is no fun; especially when you're prone to trip on toys the dog left in your path. However, with the Belkin WeMo app I can activate the light from my iPhone ... simply brilliant. The device is inexpensive enough that I've picked up a few for other rooms and added one module with the motion detection feature to the garage.

Setup was a breeze and I like the ability to be able to schedule on/off times. The only issue I've run into was the light came on after I turned it off manually because there was a schedule that was supposed to turn off the light a few hours later. However, I just have to remember to disable the schedule if I go to bed early; and re-enable the schedule the next day. But that's a small inconvenience. Fix this issue and I'll gladly increase my rating to 5 stars.

    Very useful

    • Written by from Burton

Have 2 and have had them for 5 months.......use the timer device flawlessly to turn lights on and off. One thing I found during setup, If you have a router EXTENDER, turn the EXTENDER OFF during setup so it connects to the main router, then the set up goes smooth. I can access these from my home network, another network, and cellular just fine

    Used every day!

    • Written by from Bromsgrove

We have two WeMo switches and they have worked flawlessly now for over 6 months since we got them. Easy to set up, easy to configure; certainly no issues through a BT Homehub anyway.

They tell you they need updating and that's happened a couple of times without drama. I love the fact you can take pictures of the devices they control so you know what's what.

Much better than a timer as they can have scheduled on or off switching regardless of their status at the time and you have remote control of course. Very much recommended!

I really wanted to like it but .... Not quite there.

    • Written by from Sydney

After hours of mucking around I managed to get it working by using port forwarding. Everything else works with my network without that sort of hassle. Now it works fine - although I can't ever have more than one because of the forwarding rules. Because they have tried to make it simple to use there are no settings to tweak on the wemo - so if it doesn't work it is your network that has to be changed.

Great concept, very buggy app and device

    • Written by from Sydney

Love the concept, bought two for the office. Lots of issues getting it to connect to our Wireless N only network (connected to others ok) which has a very long Key. Never did connect. Once connected to another WLAN sort of works but isn't reliable and saving schedules on the APP is quite buggy too.

Love the quality of the device but it's not ready for prime time just yet.

    Utter Junk!

    • Written by from Williamtown

Like most people who've written a review, I had nothing but trouble from these since I bought them. I bought 2 and they wouldn't join my network, constantly disconnected and generally caused me angst. Resetting does nothing helpful. Since buying them I've moved house so I lost receipts etc so no chance to return them. The only pleasure they gave me was when I destroyed them with a hammer!

Apple need to look at this product and decide if it meets Steve Jobs's credo of "it just works". In this case, it doesn't.

    Belkin WeMo Switch

    • Written by from Navarre

have been using them for a few months now. Have not had any issues to speak of, those that have been experiencing problems probably have WiFi interference problem. On of my switch was on the edge of my network (weak signal from router) and sometimes would take a while to show up on the app (30 -40 seconds). added an wifi extender to my house and that took care of it. you must understand the operation of these switches, they use very little bandwidth and are not dumping information every second. all and all am very happy with the switch, wish they would make a 240vac one to control my spa heater.

    Love my WEMO

    • Written by from KALGOORLIE

Not sure why everyone is blaming Belkin for their own issues, to me it sounds like modem settings of their wifi routers that are the main issue, I have about 8 wemo switches and light switches in my house and have never had any connection issues.

    Not a consumer ready product

    • Written by from Austin

I've had the wemo product for 4 months, and I can say that I'm not satisfied. The devices continually do not show up in the app & the addition of new devices to the network seems to throw off a delicate balance of network settings. Great Idea, but I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND this product yet. @Belkin- Go buy a dropcam and use their app. Their service is reliable.

    WeMo Blow

    • Written by from Greensburg

Product didn't work from start. Because I received a couple of gift cards from Apple for buy iPads, I decided to try this product, even with the bad reviews. I should have know better. If a product has almost the same amount of 5 stars as 1 stars, you know it is junk. If you want to waste $50, then you should buy this product, but suggest going elsewhere and purchasing the same thing through a more reputable company, Belkin makes great surge protectors, but apparently know very little about wifi.

    Very impressed

    • Written by from Closter

I bought 4 of these to control various lights at our house, one being the outdoor landscape lighting. They work great.

I am an average computer user, I understand how things work and that's about it. No problem at all setting it up. They detected my networks right away.

Our house has 3 Airport Extremes, and these are spread out on different airports (same internet provider, it's just that one airport can't send the signal to all the places so we needed 3). They all show up right away on my iPhone app.

I set up the outdoor landscape lighting to turn on at Sunset, off at 1AM. Works great. Very nice to have that feature.

The rules you can set are pretty neat. If you are using it as a "somebody's home security feature" you can set the rules to turn lights on and off at different times on different days. And it's very easy. Those other timer type things from Lowes take forever to program. This took about 30 seconds. Programs just like the alarm clock on the iPhone.

Overall, great product so far. I could see adding a few more of these to the house.
