    Would Be Good But . . .

    • Written by from Los Angeles

Once it is charged, it is really a great invention. It is handy and one of those things . . . you can switch on WHEN IT'S CHARGED and basically completely re-up your battery. There have been a few situations where it just happened to save me.

The key thing here is WHEN . . . When it's charged. I have had this thing for probably close to 2 years. And it has been charged maybe 4 times.

This IS a great concept. But I would venture to say that 99.99% of people out there will get it and it will become an over sized heavy case. It uses one of those non standard cables . . . once that cable is gone . . . poof . . . your likely to throw it in a drawer as opposed to heading down to some warehouse electronic store and trying to flag down a stoned kid with a bad attitude to try and help you find it.

If you have roommates or other people who use the phone charger . . . and have iPhones . . . they will pull that cable off the block and its just adios. It's not even like the small part of the USB that goes to a standard hard drive.

They need to just make the thing take the iPhone adapter. Or make it a standard cable. Face it. Once you are on iPhones. You probably have a drawer full of 15 cables.

The cable also falls out when you do try and charge it.

Mophie for phone 5 -- Terrible - adapter fails after few days

    • Written by from Princeton JUnction

    Hello

I bought the Mophie for Iphone 5 .. The adapter fails after few days resulting in noise/one ear hearing if you are wearing a wired headset. I took out the adapter and connected directly to the phone and it works fine

It was great while it lasted

    • Written by from Solon

I bought this product for myself, my daughter, and my sister. All 3 of our juice packs broke within 3 months of purchase. With normal daily wear and tear as well as the occacional drop, we were very disappointed in the durability of this product. When we called mophie, they only offered us new juice packs. We did not take this offer because in 3 months, we will have more broken cases! We wasted about 300 dollars on these products. I would like a more durable case that charges my phone as well.

    Awesome Product with One Flaw!

The Mophie Juice Pack for the iPhone 4 is simply awesome. I use it constantly as I am always on the move and away from a charging source. I have put so many people onto this product and they have all had the same reaction.

The one flaw that I need to point out that is a little bit of a let down is the micro USB connection on the bottom of the case. It is a very weak connection and the plug often falls out not completing the charge. The Iphone and lighting plugs are solid and take a bit of force to separate from the units. I hope the next models of Mophie products can address this problem and have a solid tight connection on the case.

    Other than that, Awesome Product!!

I do love the look of this and actually like the weight that it adds. The extra charge it provides came in very handy several times. Unfortunately it didn't stand up to normal use. I dropped it from a couple feet from the ground and the usb port was crushed making it useless. I only had it for 5 months.

    Mini USB Broken

    • Written by from Lima

I've always had trouble getting the cable plugged in to the Mophie case. Now, at 6 months old, the connector is shot & I can't charge it any more. WAS very happy with the extra battery life & protection the case offers. Almost every review mentions the Mini USB problem

    Must be an iPhone issue

I've got a 4S and bought a mophie that worked great. Suddenly it won't charge my iPhone! The phone will charge when I plug the mophie into the power cord, but not when it's unplugged. So I bought a new one--same thing! Went to yet another store and they tried my phone in a mophie there and the very same things happened. The clerk plugged in his 4S and it was fine. So the mophie works, and my phone can get charged THRU the mophie to the power cord, but not BY the mophie, whether its a new or old unit. What gives???

I have 3 iPhone 4S I bought my family juice packs for Xmas n they all broke 6 months later. For $120 a piece it's not worth buying. They come apart very easily. I called mophie and they will not stand by their product even after explaining that every 6 months they brake. They don't care nor will they do anything after it being replaced.... You were warned

    Not bad at all

    • Written by from Orland

I don't know why everyone's freaking out. Yes, the battery and plugs do ware after a little while. No though, none of the issues addressed here are relevant to my father and step-mother's case. This case has provided average protection, has done its job of emergency-power, and is of decent build. Yes though, the design could see iprovements and the case could be more protective (especially of Digitizer). I'm a 3rd party iPhone Technician and frankly I like this case.

After 5 months of use the battery will no longer charge. My iPhone battery will fully charge but the Mophie will remain in drained mode. I expected more more such a high priced item. Don't waste your money.

    Shoddy case

    • Written by from Toronto

I received the Mophie from a friend as a gift last week. I was concerned that regardless of the protection it afforded my iPhone (more sturdy than my last case) it was bulkier, made it harder to reach the outer buttons, and I wasn't quite convinced it was the battery saviour it said it was. Literally 1 week later (today) whilst trying to plug in my mini usb the port broke and became loose!!! I didn't try to force it in the wrong way, nor did I wriggle, drop or pull anything; it just broke. Now I'm afraid to use this thing as even a plain case, figuring that the initial incentive of battery back-up is useless, but mainly because I figure the dock connector is just as flimsy as the mini usb connector!!! Shoddy, shoddy workmanship, people.

    Product Sucked

The product lasted three months perfectly. Then the case became too loose. You can not hold the phone by the top and not expect the bottom of the case to fall off with your IPHONE!!!!!
The product stopped working completely after 4 months. Piece of junk........ You are a sucker if you buy it. Say goodbye to your hard earned money. Just don't be a sucker!!!!!!!!!!!1

recessed buttons are hard to press

    • Written by from Brooklyn

First off, this thing is a lot more bulky and heavy than you might think from the photos. The thin and light iPhone becomes kind of a brick — but that's just going to be true with any external battery case with enough volume to provide a decent charge.

Regarding this case in particular: the buttons on your phone end up very recessed, so you have to really dig to get at them. More fumbling for the volume, for the lock button, for the ringer/silent switch.

They could have just gone the route a lot of thicker cases take and create outer buttons that press through to the buttons on the phone itself — but they didn't.

Otherwise, this case seems (so far) to be very well made and lives up to its power claims.

    Terrible Design and Product Quality.

I bought Juice Pack Air from the apple site. I guess the one sold through Apple site has 2 piece design. There is a lower part that houses the Micro USB connect, the switch, and the 30 pin connector. And the upper part that acts as a shield as well as probably houses the battery.

In first month of usage, the paint was peeling off. You can imagine on a white case how horrible it could look. In 4-5 months time, the lower part that has the USB connector was wiggling a lot and had to be quite deftly held together for the charging cable to actually make the connection to charge. The following month the plastic began to wear off ... i mean it was chipping off, broke.

Writing to Mophie yielded no result as they claimed that they have one year warranty from the date of purchase. Unfortunately in my case, i did not raise a customer complaint right in the beginning and did it quite late in the game. So there i guess they are right.

My final conclusion on this case is:

    a) It looks good for first few weeks till the paint starts to wear off and it gets uglier and uglier by the day.
    b) The Lower connector is very poorly built. First the Micro USB port will give way. Next the Plastics will begin to wear off. The toggle switch also looks very vulnerable.
    c) No way you will get 500 charge cycles as claimed. In my case it completely stopped working in 1 year 2 months. It does not add up to 500 charge cycles.
    d) The capability to charge the phone also depletes very rapidly. First 3-4 months, while you are getting used to poor quality of the paint job, it does charge the phone quite well but then quite precipitously the ability to charge drops.

i dont know whether they sell the lower piece seperately or not? If they do, i would want to know because may be just may be i can extract few more months of life out of this thing. And if they dont, then this is nothing but a very expensive paper weight.

Mophie may love you ... but my love for Mophie went out the door!

    Micro-USB Charging port issues

    • Written by from Newcastle

4 of 4 people found this useful

So I had an earlier version of the Mophie Juice Pac Air for my iPhone 4 that after a year started getting soft. This was to be expected so, I picket up a replacement battery from a local big box store. My first impression with there charging system is that they have went backwards with the fit on the micro-usb connector. The earlier version I had and an acceptable fit, nothing exceptional, but it worked OK. The latest battery I picked up has some serious cable retention problem.

I initially thought I had a unit with a manufacturing defect so I sent it back to Mophie and they promptly sent me a replacement. The replacement battery exhibits the same issue. The problem, as I see it is the micro-usb connecter is too far recessed into the case to make a good contact with the plug. If you use the Mophie supplied cable you should be OK but any other third party/standard micro-usb cable isn't going to fit very well.

So, be careful with what cable you use and be careful with the connector, tyour cables are going to fall out if you move it any (kind of a problem in a car).

Why don't Morphie address the USB issue, my second USB socket as gone the same way as the first, not working. I treated this one with kid gloves and it's lasted less time than the first! I bought it from Apple so hope they will replace it, but after this one gives up (which reading these reviews, it will) unfortunately I think that's it for me and Morphie. Such a shame as it is very good in every other way and has got me out of problems on those long days when I fly. Also it's really good in the hand and I think improves the look of my iPhone.

    USB Port Issues

    • Written by from Eagle River

8 of 9 people found this useful

You Would Think After Years of Problems They Would Improve the USB Port. I've read many reviews going back years and always the same issue with the USB. Mophie has replaced 4 for me so far. I take good care of my things and this case is no exception. I like the look and feel of the case and battery is great but I'm tired of having to ship mine back every 6-8 months for a replacement. Also, my first replacement they sent me back a used one, not even in original packing. Had to ship that one back too for a NEW case, only to have the same issue with the USB. I'm going to try a different, cheaper brand and see how I do!

From the first day the charger connection seemed a weak point.
After time the connection would literally fall out by itself.
Now after all the frustration I am left with a spare that has no power whatsoever.

Just not up to the task

    • Written by from Quakers Hill

PROS : The extra battery life is a godsend for business use and actually turns the iPhone a usuable propostion in real world. Yes a little bulky but offers protection for the phone as well.

CONS : The issue I have is that Ive been through two in 9 months - the USB charging port dies after 4-6months of daily use (becomes loose and connections fail). Am shopping for a different product now.

WISHLIST : Would love for Apple to offer a OEM option for heavy users and not just refer us to 3rd party products with dubious reliability

    Cheers
