Mobee Magic Charger Stopped Working Properly

    • Written by from Beverly Hills

    Hello everyone,

I recently noticed that my Magic Mouse was "ghosting" and not providing the pinpointed accuracy I was used to. I took out my Mobee Magic Charger battery and replaced it with some standard AA batteries. So far I have seen a dramatic improvement in the response from the mouse. I'm wondering why Apple keeps a product like this in their inventory when there are so many bad reviews.

    Disappointed

    • Written by from Westlake Village

I was disappointed in this product. My experience was that the mouse continually lost connection with my iMac when I used this charging system. I tried for several days to make it work but finally gave up in frustration. Fortunately, I kept my original battery back plate and was able to return to my previous AA battery system which, by the way, works just fine. I would not recommend this product.

    poorly designed product

The battery pack didn't fit into place well in my mouse. The metal tab snapped. Charging slow, sometimes weirdly didn't charge at all.

    Nice concept but lacks quality

    • Written by from Belfast

I have had the Mobee Charger for just over a year now. The biggest issue is the battery pack fit. I have to put paper inside the mouse to stop the connection dropping all the time. Not something you would expect to do considering the price. The outside area of the battery pack is starting to turn a strange pinky, white color - I looks as if it is melting or burning. However the concept of how the charger works and the way it looks has been well designed its just a shame about the quality and not to mention I am wondering about whether it is safe to continue using the charger.

    Great Until...

This product was great until it stopped working 3 months after I had received it as a birthday gift my son had spent his hard earned cash on.

    Stops working almost straight away

    • Written by from New York

    Great idea - terrible execution.
Manufacturing is of such poor quality that the unit stops working after a week max. The battery unit that you slot into your mac magic mouse doesn't stay in place and eventually breaks off, making it useless. Don't buy.

    Very unreliable connection.

    • Written by from PLEASANTON

I researched why my new magic mouse frequently lost connection. I have a recent laptop and a new mouse. The issue seems to be like the blogs said: the batteries in this charger are the issue. After I purchased the rechargeable Apple batteries and used those in the mouse, it has not had any connection problems. The computer is able to wake with the use of the mouse too. The charger has its own enclosed batteries, so the Apple batteries are not able to be used with the charger. I would guess they aren't compatible.

The Apple rechargeable batteries are almost as convenient and cheeper.

Cheap execution of an excellent idea

    • Written by from Clifton Hill

After two months of use, the battery pack expanded and became bloated - due to apparent overcharging. Overcharging? On its own charger? I never left it charging for longer than overnight, and even it I had left it to charge for an excessive period of time - surely the manufacturer, Mobee, would have factored overcharging into their design?

And sadly, it does boil down to cheap components. If this thing was of a quality build the two NiMH AAA cells it contains would have a much higher life of mAh (miliamp hours) than 800. Because if the battery's life is longer, then there is less charging to be had - and therefore less risk of over-charging.

"The best AA battery of 2014" (metaefficient.com) is the Eneloop Pro (aka Sanyo XX Battery Powered By Eneloop). These batteries hold their charge for 12 months. They also have a high energy capacity (2500 mAh), and perform better than similar high-capacity AAs. I've since invested in these batteries and rarely think about my magic mouse woes from 2013.

Overall, if the Mobee Magic Charger was made up of higher-quality components, then people wouldn't be overcharging them. Because as far as I can see from other people's reviews, the reason your mouse is constantly disconnecting, only displaying a 70% charge or so bloated on its belly that it seesaws from head to tail - all of these are signs of an overcharged battery that should be turfed into the bin.

Spend your money on rechargeable batteries instead

    • Written by from Honolulu

Literally just threw this thing in the trash. I've had it about nine months and every time I use it, the mouse constantly disconnects and reconnects until I take the power pack out and replace it with batteries. This replaced a set of rechargeable batteries that worked just fine for three years. I'm getting new rechargeable batteries which saves money and pollutes less and significantly lowers my frustration level by removing this annoyance from my life.

About a years use and it no longer works

    • Written by from Bradford

Had one of these for about a year now, and the thing just will no longer power the Magic Mouse. It still charges but doesn't seem to output any power. Terrible build quality, the battery pack looks very worn out after a year of use.

I was really impressed with this product at first but after about 4-5 months that's when problems started, frequent connectivity dropouts etc. I think I'll stick to buying a pack of batteries and keep them in my bag, at least then I'll never have to worry about the power dropping out again.

Not impressed at all. Stay away.

Battery gives wrong indication of change. If you lift if off the mat it loses connection. Most infuriating of all it will not charge sitting on the pad. I have to take the battery pack out and put that on the charger without the mouse so it will charge! Useless.

    The charger that charges

    • Written by from SLOUGH

I found the mobee magic charger charges very well that's all I found that was any good
The product is ill fitting And it's rubbing away the metal casing because there Isn't enough clearance from the two black raised sections I took it back to apple store and they have replaced . With this one there's not much difference it's still sitting on the metal at the store they told me that the battery had expanded and that's why it's pushing it out but I think it's a very bad product and I wouldn't recommend it I will go back to the batteries fairly soon

    Mixed results

    • Written by from Louisville

I will not re-hash all the problems that others have with the never ending charge light blinking. My experience has for most part been positive until recently. The connector (uUSB) has started to fail and now requires a bit of manipulation to get power into the device. I'm just outside of the 1 year warranty so the manufacturer will not even discuss it.

I enjoyed the convenience of not having to change batteries often but the product should last longer than 1 year, and if the company will not stand behind it then they don't have faith in what they are producing either.

Absolutely does not work. Stay away this unit

    • Written by from Sausalito

I gave it one star just because somehow you can't put 0.

    The saying goes like this:
"there are liars, darn liars, god darn liars, and then there are battery engineers"
The first battery pack lasted about 2 weeks. Mobee was kind enough to send a new battery pack. Once the pack was charged, the mouse only moved vertically. it won't move horizontally because I'm guessing this made in china product has not figured out that the pack does not sit right on the mouse thus movement is limited. Even when it moves, the mouse disconnect and reconnect at will. No its not my mouse issue. Once I put regular batteries it works like a charm.

An absolute waste of money; Get a wired mouse or, if you still trust battery engineers, get a charger.

    DOA

    • Written by from San Francisco

With the Mobee, I was hoping to find a simple solution to keep from replacing my mouse batteries every month. The product worked for about a minute out of the box, so I thought it just needed a full charge. After charging the batteries for 2 days (and getting a green light on the charger) I was unable to get the mouse to turn on for more than 5 minutes. On the second charge attempt, the mouse would not turn on at all, even after several attempts in inserting it into the mouse. Looks like I'm still on the hunt for a "green" solution.

Poor - rubbish battery life, does not fit properly

    • Written by from BRISTOL

I bought a brand new mouse and Mobee charger online from Apple a couple of months ago; the battery pack in the Mobee does not fit properly and the battery life is less than two days. If I forget to charge it overnight, it's guaranteed that I will have to take the battery pack out and put in ordinary duracells before the end of the second day.

I was really excited about this thing. Sadly, it doesn't fit properly into the battery compartment and the plastic feels super cheap and flimsy.
