Well thought out sleeve /clamshell design!

Fits is perfect with access to ports.Zippers are tight but no problems with them sticking yet. I like the ability to have access to the macbook pro unlike a speck case where you put it on and never see what is going on behind the case all it takes is some dirt or a little bit of and sand and scratches are there hidden. Other sleeves like neoprene types are a pain to get in and out. With the ability to use your macbook while being protected seems to be the best of both worlds for me. another nice benefit is the way the case seems to grip everything. excellent case and with a twenty five year warranty I should be set for a while. Obviously I would highly recommend this case to all mac lovers!

    Very good case

This case stands out from other cases because of it's unique look. It is as durable as it looks in the picture. It looks pretty bulky from the picture on the apple store but it's actually pretty compact and easy to handle. The three big pluses of the case are: 1- It's waterproof 2- Its durability. 3- The fact that you don't actually have to take the computer out of the case to use it. I really have nothing bad to say about this product. I would recommend this case to all macbook owners, especially new ones to protect your new investment!

    Nice idea, very bad execution

I was very confident that a case from a well known manufacturer would probably outlast my macbook.

After only three months of very light use though, the zippers came apart in three different spots (at the corners). That's $49 well spent (and that is sarcasm).

Beware, looks in this case (pun intended) hide an ugly soul!

    Best looking case around.

Nicely made semi ridged case. The MacBook Pro is protected from the inside of the metal zip so there is no way it can be damaged. There is an elastic band on the bottom of the case to keep the laptop in place but I have not needed to use this. There are two other bands that attach the top to the bottom by the hinge. These provide enough tension to protect the top of the MacBook when it is open rather than falling flat on the tabletop. All this in what is the coolest looking sleeve I’ve seen.

    Great concept, poor durability

Bought this to use with my MacBook Air 13". It is designed for the Pro models but I liked the space in the bag. Can fit SuperDrive, power cord, external HD and a couple other things, and papers in easily. LOVED this for the first 9 months. The bag is durable and has held up to many plane trips and daily use, but in the long run it is a let down. The zippers have pulled out of the bag material and it's now useless. Gonna have to replace it in less than 1 year of ownership. For a mid-priced bag, I don't think it was worth the money in the end.

Decent but slightly overpriced/quality issues for heavy users

At nearly $50 from the Apple store, Thule's clamshell case has an good initial user experience. Upon initial opening, there is a mild rubber smell that stems from the synthetic water proof shell, but that disappears with time. The fit is snug around the corners with a slight amount of room where you can lay papers either on top of or below the closed laptop. I keep a microfiber cloth in mine below the laptop itself. The material of the case is rugged and durable. The zipper pulls are tough as well. Two elastic straps which attach the top lid to the bottom of the case near the hinge point cause the lid of the open case to hug the screen of the laptop which is a nice touch. There is an elastic strap on the inside of the bottom of the case which you can slide the laptop under when closing to provide some mild insurance against the accidental sliding out of the laptop when opening the case. I never use that strap as it seems like an unnecessary middle step.

My only issue is that for the price, the product should last longer than a few months (quality of the zipper itself is lacking). I open and close my case about 4-8 times per day, nearly every day as I am a medical student. This makes me a heavy user I suppose. Keeping this in mind, the threading that holds the zipper teeth together routinely fails around the corners of the case. I say routinely since I am on my second Thule case in four months. When the threading holding the teeth in line wears out, the teeth come loose from the case and disrupt the zipper action until the zipper teeth completely pull away from the case. Numerous members of my medical school class have reported the same problem (everyone was given identical laptops/cases). So, for an average user, it may be an ideal situation, but for a heavy user, steer clear and use your money more wisely. The bonus if you've already purchased this product or want to purchase it anyway is that there is a 25 year warranty on this case (or lifetime warranty depending on which website you look at: Apple vs Thule).

Bottom line: if Thule gets durable zipper teeth this thing is tough enough it would probably make it to the 25 year warranty endpoint (though with slack in the elastic).

    Six months later

I received the Thule bag as a Christmas present in 2011. By early April I was getting it replaced because, as for others, the zipper has gone bad. (6 mos. now on second bag) With my new bag I have gotten into the habit of zipping slowly and carefully, and have had no problems at all.

The cloth straps on the side can get in the way when zipping, but they also keep the lid of the bag from flopping open and the contents from spilling out.

I, too, use this bag as a laptop table when kicked back in a Starbucks, etc. Does a good job.

I love how light and compact this bag is. With caution zipping this is a stellar bag. Zip aggressively as with a normal bag and you stand a good chance of a bad outcome. So adapt.

More durable than my THULE bike rack!

    • Written by from Ogden

Although I did hit a tree with my rack, so perhaps that is unfair... I am a HUGE fan of Thule and have bought basically useless trinkets (backseat garbage can, cooler, etc) from them that I don't use. I bought this sleeve solely because it was a THULE sleeve. And WOW am I glad I did! This thing is durable and my Macbook Pro lives in it!

The zippers are tight because they are weather sealed. This is an added bonus to me though as it helps keep prying hands out. The zippers can easily be locked with a small padlock at the bottom. The small details on this are amazing! My only possible issue would be the nice metal name tag on the case. It only serves decorative function. And it is such a nice touch, that I do not want to remove it. But when your backpacking/vagabonding with already heavy gear, every little bit of saved weight helps. Yes I could have gotten a lighter sleeve for this adventure, maybe I still will. But I am 110% confident this case will keep my Macbook protected against the rigors of third wold travel.

I am now thinking about a THULE backpack after seeing the quality of this piece!

The zipper has broken at the corners after about 5-6 months of use. I loved using the case as it is very protective. Time to go make use of the 25 year warranty.

    Very Good Product

The THULE case for 13" MacBook is a great product. It is a solid, rigid shell (about the same rigidity as a lid to a plastic tub) and looks great. I haven't tested out the water-resistant claims, but all of the features are present for it to be water resistant.

If there was one thing I would say that I dislike is that the product has no internal padding. If I were to drop my MacBook in this case, it would probably do about as much damage as dropping it without the case. The case is great if you set your laptop down on rough surfaces, use it outdoors, use it in rough environments, or carry it in a messenger bag where it's up against your hip all day and needs some solid protection, but if you're looking for something that will protect your MacBook from fall damage, this isn't the product for you.

This Thule 13' sleeve is one of the best accessory I ever bought for my macbook pro. This product is so thin and very durable. The magsafe power port and 2usb ports is accessible while using this sleeve, which is good. As a college student I'm sure that this product will provide maximum protection to my investment. Also it has a 25 years warranty, thats how durable this product. The cons are it smells like tires and the zippers are a little bit tight. Overall its an amazing product!

    Zipper fail

    • Written by from Williston

Nice case with decent protection - I like how you can use your computer while it's seated in the case as well. Unfortunately, the zipper gave out after three months of use, same as other reviewers. It happens around the corners - so far it's only happened on one side for me so it's still functional, but for this price the zipper should work better.

I have had my case for 3 months now and its really nice and is really protective, except for the fact that the zipper has now broken. I am really upset as I really liked the case but cannot recommend it to anybody until the problem is fixed.

I bought this reading what the label said the design enables you to use your MacBook while still in the case. However it did make my MacBook Pro run a little warm. So after that I do take it out of the case and run it... but I have to say other then that the durability is great for the price. I like the water resistant zippers awesome feature. Along with that the all weather use of the case is ideal If you travel and use your Mac out in the weather. Over all a good choice. My Mac found a new home.

    Only for transport

I bought this sleeve not even 1 year ago or was it? It looked good for a while and after pretty frequent use ( just like you expect of computer and veterinary software use). But now the YK zip lock, which looked primarily well made, gave up in several spots. I am not sure if this is even repairable, but it stinks, so saying this the product is sturdy for one time transports of computers but not for frequent use of computers which make this sleeve really useless after 1 year. Buy this if you want to carry your computer to the cave or on mount Everest, but why you would like to have computers there ??

    Badly Made

I bought this case thinking it would provide adequate protection for my MacBook pro, yet still be light weight. This was the case for about two months, after which the zip broke and came loose from the inner lining of the case. It was as if the MacBook was too big and the zip and it's track couldn't take the strain when opening and closing the case. I wouldn't recommend this case to anyone, as if it doesn't close properly it's almost completely pointless. So look elsewhere. I expected better from Thule.
