Very cheaply made connection. Had it hooked up to a monitor for 2 weeks and died in the middle of using it. Would look elsewhere for an adapter.

Mini DisplayPort to HDMI audio Fix

    • Written by from Waterloo

I purchased a 10 ft. Mini to HDMI cable awhile ago to watch movies and could not get sound on my Harmon/Kardon system but I did have video. I changed audio settings in the preferences and still no audio. After reading other peoples issues re: no audio, I purchased a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adaptor then plugged in a HDMI to HDMI cable from the adaptor to my stereo and I now have audio through my stereo system.
I have a MacBook Pro purchased late Oct. 2011

Love the Moshi Mini DP to DHMI adapter with audio support

I love this product. Received it ahead of schedule, hooked it up within minutes, turned on my TV, changed the port to dhmi2 (where my computer was connected) then turned on the computer. As soon as I logged in I went right up to the display properties and picked mirror and it switched on immediately. One last step to change the ratio on the tv screen and I was all set. Tried my pandora right away to see if the sound worked and, yes, it did. No need to change anything. I tested Internet, utube, face book, iBooks... Every thing I could thnk of and wow, works great. FYI I have an iMac late 2010. This whole thing took about 15 minutes. The actual hook up only about 5minues. I've been using it off and on through out the day for almost a week now with no glitches. Treat the cables with care, the pins are delicate, and you should have no problem.

Nice but need to fix the cable issue

The design is nice, but the cable is not so good. Aometimes it is turning by itself and the contacts are not working. So it loses the HDMI signal and it is random working ...

Excellent little adaptor. Used this to connect a MacBook Pro to an HD Samsung TV with an HDMI cable for a presentation. Worked great - simple to use, just plug and play. Would recommend.

    Hi all

I have purchased this cable for my little sister and like most of you, who are about to purchase this cable, I did not read the notice. Be aware that the Audio will not work if your computer is not one of the following: *Audio support is only available for MacBook Pro 13/15/17-in. mid-2010 release; iMac 21.5/27-in. early-2010 release.*

So, no need to trash the product, just read the notice!!!

Otherwise, it works perfectly on my computer (sorry sister).

I bought this from the apple store, thinking that it would be good quality. But I was very wrong! This adaptor's plastic case broke after a month. Now the audio does not work, and very frequently no signal is transmitted. TOTAL waste of money.

    Does not work.
Bought one to connect my MBA 11" to a Samsung 40" LCD TV which has multiple HDMI devices connected to it (including apple TV) - so the HDMI inputs do work.
When connected I get no recognition of the TV by the mac, and the TV flashes up occasionally mode not supported - blank screen otherwise.
A search of the internet appears to confirm that even if you can get this item to work - it will only be for a matter of hours or days at best.
Hoping that Apple bring out their own model.

The Quality of the adapter is very poor. After the first 5-6 months it completely stopped working. I am not the only one having this issue. It is cheap and worthless.

Adaptor loses contact after 6 months of use

    • Written by from surrey

As other reviews have mentioned this adaptor is a terrible design. After 6 months of 1 or twice per week use it sporadically and then totally lost contact. For the almost $40 paid this is extremely disappointing.

I bought this with my mac book air in November and used it twice before it broke. Now the mac only recognises that there is another display but no image or sound is seen. it initially worked well.
I'd find an alternative if I was you.

43% failure rate according to the rest of these reviews...

I bought this and the first time I used it, I turned my MacBook Air upside down with the lid closed to keep the ventilation open on my couch and it cut out with the slightest touch, sometimes I did not even have to touch it. Once it got started it worked fine, but 67 out of 152 reviews say that it fails after time. It can work from 12 hours to 2.5 years. The Griffin seems most reliable according to reviews.
At this time of writing, here are the failure rates for MiniDisplay Port to HDMI adapters according to Apple reviews:

    Moshi -43% (67 out of 152 reviews)
    Belkin -31% (10 out of 32 reviews)
    Griffin -14% (2 out of 14 reviews)

I hope this was helpful. I am going to exchange my Moshi adapter for a Griffin adapter.
