So I can hook my iPhone up to this and it will make a wifi hot spot?
I have an iPhone with an unlimited Internet plan. I am in the market to get an Internet service in my house for my iPad and Xbox. If I could use my Internet from my phone that would be amazing.

Is AirPort Express model A1084, (with retractable plug prongs, and an ethernet, USB, and a cable port, compatible with the Mac OS X Mountain Lion 10.8
my new iMac OSX 10.8.2 recognizes no airport devices, which only blink yellow. The network that my old iMac OSX 10.4 recognized, did not transfer to the new device at the time of purchase, and I cannot seem to establish a new network to stream music to my stereo. The airport express devices are about 2006 vintage.

Best AnswerAfter taking the desktop iMac to the Mac Store, along with the airport express, the tech found that my new iMac and the store's new iMac OSX 10.8 did not recognize the 2006 version of airport express. However the tech's personal older model laptop did recognize the airport express. He transferred the file from his computer to mine and Mountain Lion OSX 10.8 then recognized my old airport express. Everything is now working as I had hoped.
This was an unexpected problem for all the service techs at the store and one for which they could find no Apple service commentary.. They were going to persue the issue further, as they expected the problem to surface again. This was also a concern to them because Apple is still selling the older version of Airport Express along side a new version.- Answered by Stephen S from Portland

can I replace my old airport base station (from 7 years ago) with an airport express?
the new airport express looks like it could be a replacement for it from the specs, but I'm not sure what the difference between the two airport models are.

Answer3.5 mm standard stereo or mini-toslink socket. You need a 3.5 mm to dual-RCA (phono) Y lead, which most electronics shops should be able to sell or manufacture for you.

Can one of the ethernet ports be used to plug in a printer instead of the USB port?
- Asked by Roger A S from Hudson

- Flag as inappropriate
AnswerAbsoutely , as long as the printer is configured properly there would be no issues. Usually best bet to create a static connection to the printer if it is to stay always connected and on as they usually do(they go to deep sleep but are always on) You get the best trouble free operation that way

Answer
Hello. This 2012 Airport Express model does support wireless 802.11 a. However, I believe you are referring to 802.11 ac. The current 2012 Airport Express does not support this type of network but it can support any a/b/g/n network.

Answerno, the airport express does not come with an ethernet cable you will have to purchase one separately. you should be able to find one for a few dollars at an electronics or computer shop or even the office department of your local department store.

Does the USB port power third party peripherals?
I wish to use the airport express to stream (airplay) music to a hi-fi system.
In order to connect the airport express (digital optical out) to the amp (analogue RCA phono) I will need to use a digital to analogue converter.
The majority of these are mains powered but I am looking at a USB powered one and I need to know if the USB port on the airport express will be able to power a digital to analogue converter as it appears its main function is to connect to a printer.- Asked by Steven H
