How does the battery life compare to the magic mouse? I like the feature set better and wish Apple would add many of the gestures to the mouse.

Best AnswerAs an owner of both the Magic Mouse, and now the Magic Trackpad, I can say that the trackpad is WAY better when it comes to battery life. The reason being: it has the same feature on it as the Apple Bluetooth Keyboard, where as it goes to "sleep mode" when not in use. For example, I've had my keyboard and magic mouse the same amount of time, accidentally leaving both on overnight several times, and my keyboard is still at 100% battery life, whereas my mouse is now at 40%. I've had them both for about 2.5 months. I'm absolutely in love with the new Trackpad now because of it's increased amount of capabilities vs the mouse, and it's ability to conserve battery when I accidentally leave it on. The mouse should have been able to do that as well. Anyway, I hope this answers your question.

Does the Magic Trackpad have a gyroscope?
It would only make sense for it to have one. Especially since they have the Mac app store, so does it?

AnswerNo, there is no reason for the Magic Trackpad to have a gyroscope.

How do I switch applications with the Magic Trackpad?
I use a four finger sweep, however I do not know how to select the application I desire. (short of moving the pointer) Is there a Trackpad command?

Best AnswerI use the Dock, Mission Control and Launchpad.
For applications I use daily, I keep them in the dock. I use LaunchPad to get to applications I rarely use.
When applications are open I use Launch Pad or the Dock to switch.
It took me a while to adopt these functions into daily use but after switching from desktop models to a laptop, it became more intuitive. Now, like all things Mac, it is second nature.- Answered by Christine G from Pilot Mountain

Can I use this as a graphics tablet? As in could I buy a capacitive stylus and use it for Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop as well?
- Asked by Martin G from Wheeler Heights
- 27/07/2010

Best AnswerNo, it is NOT a graphics tablet (no pressure-sensitivity capability). It is a tap-and/or-click trackpad. That is all.
(Unless, of course, Apple has actually built it as a graphics tablet and just hasn't gotten around to providing the "upgraded" drivers yet. Caveat: I are not an inguneer, so don't know what the relevant electronics design entails.)- Answered by Kevin J. M

can track pad be configured to act like a number pad?
i'm a finance guy and really, really appreciate having a number pad on my keyboard. apple has been moving away from number pads and there are no 3rd party ones available (at least none up to apple standards). plus i'd find it very useful to have a trackpad / number pad to use with my macbook when i'm on the road. it must be possible to programme something like this and then supply a simple foil with the relevant keys marked on it?

Best AnswerWhile it may be possible.
It probably isn't practical:
-when using an normal 10-key number pad, the user rests their fingers on home row (3,5,6) and uses tactile feedback to quickly enter numbers.
-even with a number pad foil and software to drive the virtual number pad, the user would have to hover their fingers above the number pad's home row and would have no tactile feedback for each key stroke (assuming the sw was using single tap per keystroke; making the trackpad physically click for each keystroke would be very hard for the user)
-hunt and peck could work; but, number entry speed would be pretty slow compared to a real 10-key number pad.- Answered by Chris S from San Jose

How well does this work with Photoshop? And Dual screens...?
Is the trackpad sensitive enough to us as something in between a mouse and a graphics tablet? Also how well does it work for spanning over a dual screen set up?
- Asked by Ben S

AnswerI do not know how well it works with Photoshop, but I imagine it works very well. I have my Magic Trackpad set up with dual screens and it works great, just as well as any other mouse. I really like the Magic Trackpad, and I previously owned the Mighty Mouse and the Magic Mouse. Out of the three the Magic Trackpad is the best by far and I really recommend getting it.

Can you connect multiple magic trackpads to one computer at the same time? If so how many can work simultaneously?
- Asked by Winslow B from Tempe
- 13/11/2010
- Flag as inappropriate
AnswerOn a Mac their is virtually no limit to the number of pointing devices that can be connected, but what is the point? There is only cursor on the screen so there is no way for multiple users to interact with the machine. (This support is mainly there for laptops, where people often connect an external mouse, or schools where assistive technology devices often remain connected)

Can this trackpad be used as a tablet?

Best AnswerThe Magic Trackpad is essentially the same trackpad found on the MacBook line of notebooks. While there isn't a built-in capability to support use as a drawing tablet, a third-party could create a plug-in or application to support such a feature.

Where is the On/Off switch on trackpad?
- Asked by Patricia M from Edina

AnswerThe on/off switch is located on the upper right side of the trackpad, you should see a power logo on the side. Just press and hold till green light comes on at the top of the trackpad then release. To turn on again just do the same thing as turning it off. Hope that helps. Gilbert

AnswerNo, it will not work because G4 does not support Snow Leopard, which is needed for the operation of Magic Trackpad.
