It is almost exactly the same size as a CD-ROM envelope. If you have an Apple Wireless Keyboard, it is the same height.

Is the Magic Trackpad like the Bamboo Pen & Touch by Wacom?
- Asked by Tyler S

Best AnswerNo, you really miss a pen! A Pen is so much nicer to navigate, and because there is a combination of pen AND touch, the wacom is better.

Will the magic trackpad work with the new ipad ("3")?
- Asked by Max P
- 08/03/2012
- Flag as inappropriate
Best AnswerUnfortunately no. iPad doesn't support Magic Trackpads. The only thing you can use with your iPad is a wireless keyboard (with Bluetooth). Using a trackpad with the iPad will not be as comfortable as you think. You cannot tap apps or anywhere on the screen with a trackpad because you won't know where you are tapping on the iPad.

Will it work on my Linux workstation?
I have a MacBook Pro at home (and some of my lucky colleagues have one at work too). I'd like to use the Magic Trackpad on my Linux workstation.
- Asked by Timothy M from Newton
- 11/08/2010

Best AnswerThe two requirements would be:
-your Linux workstation has Bluetooth and Bluetooth driver sw (easy requirement)
-Apple (or a Linux developer) writes a Linux driver for the Magic Trackpad (much tougher requirement)- Answered by Chris S from San Jose

Answer
No - there are no drivers, but there are the usual fanatic sites that purport to tell you how to overcome this deficiency. For enthusiasts only these.

Answer
In what respect ?
Apple Magic Trackpad offers all of the funtionality of the trackpad on the MacBook line but with an 80% greater playing field.
I guess if you have used iMovie on a MacBook then you would be right at ease with this and say an iMac !
Remember that it is a trackpad at present - not a graphics tablet !
Hope this helps.

Is there a cord option?
Is there any chance of getting a corded version of this? I don't need or want another wireless device, but I'd snap this up if it had an optional USB (cable) version.
- Asked by Scott V from Los Alamos

Best AnswerUnfortunately Apple has decided this will be a bluetooth only device. It would be nice to have a USB version so we don't have to worry about batteries when you seem to need a device most and they go dead.

I have a computer that is out of warranty. If I purchase a Magic Mouse or Magic Trackpad, do I have to have a support line to assist me with installing it to work with my Macbook?

How does the battery life compare to the magic mouse? I like the feature set better and wish Apple would add many of the gestures to the mouse.
- Asked by Scott K from Boulder
- 28/07/2010
- Flag as inappropriate
Best AnswerAs an owner of both the Magic Mouse, and now the Magic Trackpad, I can say that the trackpad is WAY better when it comes to battery life. The reason being: it has the same feature on it as the Apple Bluetooth Keyboard, where as it goes to "sleep mode" when not in use. For example, I've had my keyboard and magic mouse the same amount of time, accidentally leaving both on overnight several times, and my keyboard is still at 100% battery life, whereas my mouse is now at 40%. I've had them both for about 2.5 months. I'm absolutely in love with the new Trackpad now because of it's increased amount of capabilities vs the mouse, and it's ability to conserve battery when I accidentally leave it on. The mouse should have been able to do that as well. Anyway, I hope this answers your question.

can track pad be configured to act like a number pad?
i'm a finance guy and really, really appreciate having a number pad on my keyboard. apple has been moving away from number pads and there are no 3rd party ones available (at least none up to apple standards). plus i'd find it very useful to have a trackpad / number pad to use with my macbook when i'm on the road. it must be possible to programme something like this and then supply a simple foil with the relevant keys marked on it?

Best AnswerWhile it may be possible.
It probably isn't practical:
-when using an normal 10-key number pad, the user rests their fingers on home row (3,5,6) and uses tactile feedback to quickly enter numbers.
-even with a number pad foil and software to drive the virtual number pad, the user would have to hover their fingers above the number pad's home row and would have no tactile feedback for each key stroke (assuming the sw was using single tap per keystroke; making the trackpad physically click for each keystroke would be very hard for the user)
-hunt and peck could work; but, number entry speed would be pretty slow compared to a real 10-key number pad.- Answered by Chris S from San Jose

How well does this work with Photoshop? And Dual screens...?
Is the trackpad sensitive enough to us as something in between a mouse and a graphics tablet? Also how well does it work for spanning over a dual screen set up?
- Asked by Ben S
- 17/08/2010
- Flag as inappropriate
AnswerI do not know how well it works with Photoshop, but I imagine it works very well. I have my Magic Trackpad set up with dual screens and it works great, just as well as any other mouse. I really like the Magic Trackpad, and I previously owned the Mighty Mouse and the Magic Mouse. Out of the three the Magic Trackpad is the best by far and I really recommend getting it.

Can I use this as a graphics tablet? As in could I buy a capacitive stylus and use it for Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop as well?
- Asked by Martin G from Wheeler Heights
- 27/07/2010

Best AnswerNo, it is NOT a graphics tablet (no pressure-sensitivity capability). It is a tap-and/or-click trackpad. That is all.
(Unless, of course, Apple has actually built it as a graphics tablet and just hasn't gotten around to providing the "upgraded" drivers yet. Caveat: I are not an inguneer, so don't know what the relevant electronics design entails.)- Answered by Kevin J. M
