Does "Pinch Open & Close" work for documents and folders in the Finder?
I know that this duplicates double-clicking (or optionally double-tapping). Nevertheless, it would be nice if this would work. Not sure what else could be opened and closed, besides pictures in iPhoto?

What I hate about the Mac keyboard is there is no numeric pad (10-key) like on a PC. Could MTP fill in for a 10key?

AnswerYes you can buy a sticker that adds a layer of numeric pad keys to the magic trackpad and it includes some software that can make it perfrom like it was a seprate numeric pad on its own.

AnswerNo, it has very little support in WIn7, it's just a simple mouse. No multi-touch support yet.

At the store I found the track pad hard to click and once clicked I could no longer move my finger. Is the pressure needed to click it adjustable?
- Asked by Russell H from Glastonbury

- Flag as inappropriate
AnswerUse your thumb to click on the bottom edge of the trackpad and your index finger to move the cursor. (the pressure needed to click is _not_ adjustable)
Alternate method:
in system prefs/trackpad
-enable "tap to click"
in system prefs/Universal access (Lion only; they're in trackpad on snow leopard)
-trackpad and mouse tab
-click "trackpad options" button
-enable "dragging"
-enable "drag lock" (optional)
These setting allow the trackpad to be used without physically clicking.
(note: it takes a little more finger discipline to use in this mode. but, it doesn't take much time to adapt.)- Answered by Chris S from San Jose

Cursor control with the trackpad on my MacBook Pro is much less precise than the trackball on my Mac Pro. How does the Magic Trackpad compare?

AnswerYou do get better at it. But for editing text, and for Photoshop, I have found the MTP, with all its fun and swash, hopeless. For precision work of any kind, I pick up the stylus and work on a Wacom pad. (Last time I checked, Intuit did not officially support Lion, but the stylus/pad do work fine.)

AnswerIt doesn't matter what hard, flat surface you place the Magic Trackpad on.
(all movement input is done on the touch surface on the top of the Trackpad; there are two feet that sense physical click)
Note:
You can configure the Trackpad to work on soft surfaces (couch pillows, etc.) by opening SysPrefs/Trackpad and enabling:
-Tap to Click
-Dragging
-Drag Lock (optional)- Answered by Chris S from San Jose

How smooth is response with a Mac Pro?
I bought a magic mouse a while back that skipped and had very poor response with a Mac Pro. I exchanged it for a new one with no improvement and have no problem with the mouse when using it with my Macbook Pro. Others have had this problem and it is apparently due to poor bluetooth reception through the case of the Mac Pro and/or weak bluetooth signal from the magic mouse. I would really like to get a Magic Trackpad but am afraid I might have the same problem with it. Is anyone having this problem with the trackpad and a Mac Pro? Thanks.

AnswerI have been using a trackpad (MacPro 1,1 with a plug-in bluetooth) for a few months. It is very fun to slip along like a hummingbird when moving from place to place, yes, smooth as silk, for sure: at first, it was so smooth it sometimes picked up the odd folder and dropped it somewhere along its path without my even noticing! You develop a light touch.
My complaint is that it's not often possible to select a section of text and drag and drop it – at all, let alone where you want it (you can cut and paste).
There is no easy right-click, but you can work around that, too.
The fun aspect is definitely addicting, and I haven't seriously considered going back to my trackball. But I do use a Wacom pad for Photoshop and such where detail is required. I hope this is helpful.- Answered by Laurel R from Tomales

AnswerYes,
assuming:
-you are using the MacBookPro with clamshell closed, external keyboard, and magic trackpad/mouse
-it also helps a lot if you have very limited physical desk space (limiting mouse movement)
_or_
if you have big hands, the magic trackpad is 130mm x 110mm (81% bigger area than the MBP trackpad, 104mm x 76mm)- Answered by Chris S from San Jose

Has anyone used this to do a presentation?
It would seem perfect for remote screen control of a presentation. I often present in Personal Brain and no remote could possibly work since it is non linear and you have to control a pointer. It forces me to me near the podium or computer. And a mouse will not work if I am standing. This could be fantastic for moving around after I attach a handhold loop to the back. Anyone tried presenting?

Answeryes! i used it for a university lecture, it works very well. Depending on how big the theatre/audience is, do not move too far away from the computer. It will work up to about 6m away, but any further and the signal becomes broken more and more until eventually it is out of range.
it fits snugly into the palm of your left hand allowing for your right hand to make all the gestures. Be sure that you know how to click when it is not on a flat surface. If 'tap to click' is not on, you will need to press on the little semi-spherical rubber protecter at the bottom to click, as this triggers the physical click. I had a bit of a bad experience… but for the presentation it worked very well.- Answered by Anthony-paul H from Coburg

Can I use the trackpad together with a bluetooth mouse on a Windows machine?
- Asked by Robert Z

AnswerAnswering my own question: Yes it works.
I bought a Magic Trackpad and a bluetooth mouse and connected both to a Windows machine (Windows 7) and they work simultaneously.
I did some research beforehand and realized you can connect up to 8 bluetooth devices and they all should work together regardless of operating system.- Answered by Robert Z

Does the Magic Trackpad click easily at any point across its surface, top to bottom, left to right?

AnswerIt takes a bit more force to physically click near the top, but it certainly is doable. Left to right seem identical to me, again, with a bit more force required as you near the top.

I have an iMac 24 with OS X 10.5.8. I was advised that I could use a Track Pad but it doesn't install. Any ideas?
I understand that I need OS X 10.6 or above? Is that correct? How do I get OS X 10.6 or higher? I have tried your Support Downloads but cannot find the right version.

AnswerI use it on mine without issue. Certain iPhoto gestures do not work, but they are not commonly used ones. The two finger twist to rotate a photo does not work, but there is a button on the bottom of iPhoto which can handle that. Also, the three finger back and forward swipe does not seem to work in iPhoto, though it works fine throughout the rest of the OS. You can overcome this limitation by downloading BetterTouchTool. It allows you to create your own gestures for use in individual apps. All you gotta do is associate the gestures you would like to perform the above mentioned iPhoto actions with the keystroke combinations associated with those actions and you will be golden. Beware though, the beauty of Apples current generation of machines is evident in the Magic Trackpad and staring at it will weaken your resolve to be financially responsible by squeezing all the life you can out of your current MacBook. After two weeks of owning my Magic Trackpad, I found myself suddenly purchasing a new Mac Mini. That aluminum is just too beautiful...
