I dont like Nike shoes...is there a third party option (shoe) which I can use for the Nike sensor?

I'm not sure if there are other shoes that support the sensor but Nike sells a pouch which ties into the shoe laces of any shoe. The cost is around $10 and it is serves the same purpose as any Nike + shoes.

Is there a battery? How long does it last? Is it chargeable/replaceable?
- Asked by DM from Weston

Best Answer
The Sports kit comes with the sensor that goes into your shoe, and the reciever that goes into your ipod.
The sensor is what contains the battery - unfortunately the battery cannot be replaced. Good news is - I got a good 5-6 months out of my sensor before replacing it; and you can buy the sensors individually (without the receiver) for around 19.99 I believe? :)- Answered by AD from Fort McMurray

I've put the transmitter in my laces and it works fine. I'm sure that Nike won't be happy with me saying that though. ;-)

So if there are 2+ people running together how do you know if you are getting the correct information like running in a 5K?
- Asked by JP from ELIZABETHTOWN
- 16/11/2009
- Flag as inappropriate
Best Answer
The sensors all transmit at the same frequency, but they each have a unique code. So if there are 2+ people running together, each person gets the correct information as their receiver only listens to information from the sensor identifying itself with the right code.

What is the difference to what is built into the newest iPod nano?
The iPod nano has a pedometer built in, doesn't it? What do I need this for? Is there a difference?
- Asked by MS from Kassel
- 11/10/2009
- Flag as inappropriate
Best Answer
According to Apple's support pages you still need to plug in the little receiver and put the sensor in your shoe to get the Nike+ interface to show up on the newest Nano (5th Generation). The Nano does have a basic pedometer built in but it isn't as advanced and interactive as the Nike+ version.
for some reason i i am not allowed to post the direct link to the support page on apple's site that shows the details. However, if you google
"Differences Pedometer Nike", it should be the top hit. Good luck.- Answered by WT from Brighton

If I don't want to buy the Nike+compatible shoes; Can I put the counter in a pocket or is it a shoes-reliant thing?
- Asked by KM from Ware

Best Answer
It will not work correctly in a pocket but there are other options if you do not use Nike+ shoes. I have seen and used velcro pouches that the sensor fits into, these work great and are only a few bucks. You can do a Google search, check ebay or various sports/running stores.

Does the Nike Sport Kit work with the iPhone 3G?
I read 3 different answers for this question -
a flat out No,
one answer stated a conversation with Apple who said it only worked with the 3GS,
and a Yes if the iPhone 3G has the 3.0 update.
So which is it?
THANKS!

As far as I know, the iPhone 3G does not have the hardware necessary to support the 3G. This hardware is an RFID chip, and the 3GS comes with this chip. The purpose of the dongle, however, is to act as the RFID chip. The iPhone 3G does not support the dongle accessory, so you're out of luck. I am looking for an answer myself, but this is what I have found out from my research. I hope that helps.

According to the apple website under "Nike+iPod"
" Grab your iPod nano, iPod touch, or iPhone 3GS, a pair of Nike+ shoes, and the Nike + iPod Sport Kit or Sensor. Put the sensor in your Nike+ shoe — there’s a built-in pocket specifically designed for it under the insole. Then connect the receiver to your iPod nano.
iPod touch and iPhone 3GS include built-in support for Nike + iPod, so NO receiver [aka iPod plug in] is necessary.
The sensor tracks your run, then sends the data to your iPod."
That would suggest that only the shoe sensor is necessary.
Hope this helps.- Answered by JP from La Habra

Do you need the receiver if you have an iPod Nano 5G?
In order to get all of the Nike+ data, do you need to buy the entire sport kit or will the Sensor alone be good enough?
- Asked by LN from Palo Alto
- 26/10/2009

Best Answer
The information is troublesome.
I found out that you need the receiver and the sensor if you want to use that service.
The nano 5g does not connect to the sensor without a reveiver.
However they do sell sensors piece but not the receivers. So to get a receiver you need to buy the whole kit with both of 'm..... duhhh!- Answered by MK from Wijdenes
