MacBook comes with a mini-display port. There are 3 different kinds of adapters to convert mini-display port to VGA or DVI or HDMI. Typically, LCD has HDMI input port. DVI can transfer only Video signals. Where as HDMI handles both Audio and Video. Therefore, if you get VGA or DVI, you need to connect an additional audio cable from your MacBook to LCD TV. Cost of these adapters vary from $15 to $25, approximately.

The adapter is not meant to plug into whatever display you might have, it is designed so you can plug one end of a VGA cable into your adapter and the other end into your display

Short Answer: No. Only for older non-Pro series MacBooks.
Long Answer: The 2009 MacBook Pro's use Mini-Display Port for video output. To connect MDP to VGA you need a different part. Apple makes a "Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter" retailing for $29.00. The 2008 MacBook Pro's used full size DVI. This dongle is designed to work with all Black and White polycarbonate MacBooks, iMacs (Intel Core Duo), and 12-inch PowerBook G4's. Just FYI, the MacBook Air uses Micro DVI, so this is dongle is not compatible with that notebook either.- Answered by JH from Parker

I don't think so. I used the mini-DVI to DVI adapter that came with my Mini and bought a DVI to HDMI adapter to connect with the TV. Big problem is you don't get sound with this configuration, so you'll have to run a second cable.

Best Answer
Yes, this product will connect the 2009 Mac Mini with a standard VGA monitor. Although if you want to connect a second VGA monitor simultaneously you'll need to get a Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter as the mac mini has one Mini-DVI port and a Mini DisplayPort.
The Mac Mini comes standard with a Mini DVI to DVI adapter.- Answered by BC from Greenpoint

I just bought a Mac Mini. The salesman sold me a LG monitor with it. The min DVI connector is not compatible with the monitor. Now what?

Answer
You need to check the connector on your monitor. If it's DVI, you need a Mini DVI to DVI adapter. If it's VGA, you need Mini DVI to VGA. Then you just plug a regular (DVI or VGA, depending on which you need) cable to the adapter and the monitor.
