It's texting for iphone,ipod touch,ipad, and mac computers running mountain lion and the reason it is better is: It texts over wifi if you have your ipod touch, ipad, or mac running it and if you are sending a text to a non-imessage user it comes out as a normal sms but if you are sending a text to a imessage user, then it will send it as a imessage text and it goes over the interwebs so your texting bill doesn't skyrocket.

If you are looking for a device that can make calls to any phones or landlines then your only option really is the iPhone... No other Apple devices will allow you to make calls to non-Apple devices.
The dialing screen is already in large print and is easy enough to get to if you show him how :) But I am not sure if you can use speed dial though... you can ask at an Apple store though! The staff are very helpful :)

They primarily use a magnetometer chip to sense the the earth's field relative to the device. The chip senses the field in three directions, and from that can figure where the magnetic field pointing north is. It can also detect direction of movement with accelerometers and GPS.

The compass will only work if the iPhone is switched on. If the iPhone battery is low you will still be able to use the compass until the battery is completed drained of power (when it turns it's self off). After that you will need to recharge the iPhone to be able to use the compass again.

Yes it's defiantly possible. Just follow these steps:

1. Make sure Bluetooth is enabled on your iPhone; this may seem obvious.

2. You’ll see the ‘Now Discover-able’ notice.

3. Push and hold down the pairing button on your keyboard; on the Apple keyboard, this is the round flush button on the right-hand side of the keyboard’s round base, and you’ll want to be holding down the Fn key while you hold the round flush button.

4. Hold down the button on the device until it changes to pairing mode; this is usually apparent when the status light changes its flashing pattern (the Apple keyboard does two quick flashes, then a brief pause, then repeats).

5. Watch the screen of your iPhone: initially it will say that it has detected a ‘Keyboard’ whose status is not paired.

6. Keep the button held down long enough, and the iPhone will pull the identifier from the device and this information will be displayed in the list.

7. Tap the name of the new device you’d like to pair. After a few seconds, you’ll get a screen saying that the keyboard would like to pair with your iPhone. Type the number the iPhone gives you on the keyboard, then press Enter.

8. The status screen will now say that your keyboard is connected.

Note that your iPhone and keyboard will remain paired as long as you leave Bluetooth on. This may be useful because you can enter your pin code off your keyboard when the unit is locked.

You have to be running iOS 6 and above and you have to go to settings then scroll the category labeled "Facebook" then install and log in
