Using a 1/4 inch to 1/8 input adapter, would I be able to use a more professional microphone with Garageband on the iPad?

    You definitely could as many people already use iRig like this to connect an external preamp for a professional mic. IK Multimedia is coming out with a cool new iRig PRE, which allows you to connect a professional XLR microphone to y our iOS device. Its not out yet but you can already check it out on IK's website.
