I installed a 640GB SATA hard drive in my Mac Pro1,1 model and it works great. The guys at the Apple store in Houston Galleria told me it was the biggest drive I could install, but maybe a new larger drive has come out that is compatible. My Mac is dual-core Intel Xeon, 3 GHz, 2 cores (4 processors), 8 gb ram, bus speed 1.33 Gz, Boot ROM MP11.005C.B08

  • Any 3.5 inch SATA-II hard drive will work in any Mac Pro. Both 7200 or 5400 rpm will do. The latter is slower but consumes less power.

SATA-II is also known as SATA-300 or SATA 3Gbps.
