This model can do both, FM transmit to you in car radio or hook up using an AUX jack.
There is a separate model has no FM transmitter option.
The device has a little stereo cable hanging out of it so that you can plug it into the headphone jack of your phone. That cable then leads to the devices internal FM transmitter which will send it out to your card radio. Conversely, you can simply hook up an iPhone compatible stereo cable and have it go from your iPhone's headset jack to your car's AUX input directly. This is the highest end model that Belkin offers for the iPhone.- Answered by Johnson S

It does not require an AUX input in your car but keep in mind that this product requires the use of the headphone output on the iPhone to access sound.

No the unit is an FM transmitter that broadcasts the iPhone/iPod output to your car's FM stereo radio.

CORRECTION - GPS still does not work even with audio aux connected. I am now wondering if QC is up to scratch as the FM transmitter on mine seems a lot more powerful than other belkin units i have, it cuts through weak stations and works fine. just wish I could use the GPS on my iPhone 3G 16gig

I use an App that needs the GPS (Pocketgps Camera Alert), I find the FM transmitter kills the GPS signal so I use a separate aux lead which switches the FM off.
