Does the headphone jack work for both audio out and in?

I want to use a miked headset and use this a dock for my iphone.

    I am answering my own question: I have an iphone dock and did not realize that it does have a headphone jack. It is specifically labeled "line out" and I think that about sums it up, when I tried to use my headset it still seemed to pull input audio through the phone's microphone, though the ouput audio on the headset did work.

    So I am still looking for a dock product that will enable full wired headphone capability. If anyone wants to chime in and let me know if that will be a dead end, feel free to save me some work.
