Can this be used with non-Apple items (e.g. power cord/charger for a Dell laptop)? I would prefer to just have one set of adapters.

Most power chargers for items already handle multi-voltage -- so my assumption is that I just need something that will convert the existing plug on it to the necessary configuration (e.g. for UK, or for Spain, etc).

    No, these adapters actually snap right into Apple's AC adapters; they won't work with anything else.
