is this the bet drive to get when i buy the macbook air ? can you recommend any others please as i'll also want to play games and burn cd's. Thanks

  • I agree with other comments, this is a good drive, though for heavy and intensive use, a separately powered external drive (powered directly from mains power) would be more reliable.

    For around two-thirds the cost of this (£30-45), you can get a drive that has it's own power (directly from mains) and will work on both Mac and Windows machines, and the WHOLE range of Macs rather than just the MacBook Air and MacMini Server machines.

  • Given that this drive is restricted to the Macbook Air and won't work with a USB hub, I'd have to recommend against it. I'm using a 3rd party drive that was actually designed for backing up memory cards to CDs and only incidentally for burning CDs and playing DVDs. It's working just fine with no special drivers. I haven't tried burning anything but it certainly playing things correctly. And since I had it just sitting around essentially unused, the price was certainly right.
