Solid, well built external hard drive

    Written by RF from SHEFFORD

Excellent external harddrive - well built - worked straight out of the box. Built in USB hub is very handy too. Power brick is a little large but that's out of sight on the floor under the desk. USB and FW cables are a little short or my liking.
Haven't tried the supplied Retrospect Express backup software yet - Backup from .mac works just fine for me and does all I need at the moment.

Reading a lot of reviews that these machines are DOA that might not be the case, I thought mine was.
The remedy hold the ON button for approx 3-4 seconds they then boot up. More

    Easy peasy

The reviews are getting more helpful, but too many early reviewers apparently did not press and hold the power button for the two seconds or so necessary to turn it on.

I have found this drive beyond reproach.

    Double failure

I too have had major problems with this drive and am most disappointed.
The first failed within warranty and Iomega advised that it was probably the PSU. This was replaced - still no working drive, and this was eventually replaced also.
Within the year, the replacement failed as well and Iomega said that it was probably the PSU. I am still waiting for this to be replaced but I know it's going to be the drive that is at fault. Steer clear!

You're Iomega 1TB is not dead!!!

First of all I do use two of these intensively in my recording studio.
It is a quite reliable hard drive, but if you have the latest mac pro,
I suggest you add internal drives for faster performances.
I thought my recordings where partly lost a year ago after my disk appeared to
    have crashed badly.
I did everything I could to get the data back.

To all of you that have valuable data stored on this 1TB
don't throw it away in case of failure (strange noises, red light or two green led
blocked) it is not as bad as it looks.
The answer was actually very simple in my case. I bought a new power supply,
and plugged it to the HD and everything was back to normal for a year.
Due to very poor quality, the power supply doesn't last more than a year.
The HD itself is reliable they just have very bad power supplies...
Iomega must have changed this power supplies because it tends to be very bad for their reputation.

    All the best

    Rubbish

    Written by AR from London

Lost the first one after ca. 1 year, had to send it to Holland on my own cost, then got 2 refurbished units (again they tried to charge me for the postal costs, which they finally waved after I had to complain a lot) and three power units, none of which worked, until they finally sent me another new unit, which in turn gave up the ghost in ca. 7 months. I don't even want to hear the name Iomega any more. Went back to buying a LaCie instead. I only gave it the one star, because they didn't let me post without it, otherwise it wouldn't even get the one. More
