Product Information

  • The 85W MagSafe 2 Power Adapter features a magnetic DC connector so if someone trips over it, the lead disconnects harmlessly and your MacBook Pro stays put safely. It also helps prevent fraying or weakening of the cables over time. In addition, the magnetic DC helps guide the plug into the system for a quick and secure connection.

When the connection is secure, an LED located at the head of the DC connector lights up; an amber light lets you know that your notebook is charging, while a green light tells you that you have full charge. An AC lead is provided with the adapter for maximum lead length, while the AC wall adapter (also provided) gives you an even easier and more compact way to travel.

Designed to be the perfect travelling companion, the adapter has a clever design that allows the DC cable to be wound neatly around itself for easy cable storage.

This power adapter recharges the lithium polymer battery while the system is off, on or in sleep mode. It also powers the system if you choose to operate without a battery.

Compatible with MacBook Pro with Retina display.

The Original T, The L, and now MagSafe 2 with my MBP Retina display. I am a fan of the T design but the magnet holding it in is way to weak. I don't know if it is because its smaller profile, but I can barely touch my laptop without the thing falling out. It is becoming extremely annoying to the point where I might need to walk around with a brand new MBP with its power cord duct taped to it! I believe the magnets are in the systems itself but please Apple come out with a revised adapter with a second set of neodymium magnets in the charging tip to counter act the problem and grab the machine tighter. I'd rather it be bulkier and work properly. I understand the point that is supposed to break away, but not by a feather landing on it! We miss Steve Jobs. I hope this isn't the type of product glitches we will have to get accustomed to now. Apple is supposed to be Apple, This isn't Apple at all.

I cannot understand why Apple have supplied such a beautiful machine with the shoddy tat that is the Power Supply. The cable began to fray after around 6 months and over the past couple of weeks the magnetic connector began to get extremely hot to the touch before simply stopping working over the weekend. This seems to be something of a theme with Apple products. I have had to buy at least 5 charging cables for my iPod classic. Apple equipment is extremely expensive (£65 to replace the Macbook power supply) is it too much to expect quality peripheries.

    Very disappointed

My wife had a samsung laptop she spent $1200 on and one day recently she tripped on the wire and it broke the connection inside the computer! And of course its fused onto the motherboard so I can not 'just replace it'. Had she one of these the wire would have just popped off. Now we have to send it to some place on the east coast and 'maybe' it can be repaired - what a joke!

Only con: the magnets DO need to be a tad bit stronger but not to much that if you trip on the wire it pulls your expensive Pro off the desk!

After 12 months the cable frayed and split next to the adapter. I took extra care with the second however after only 9 months the cable melted next to the adapter while the battery was charging and I was running an intensive 3D application. Fortunately it was replaced under warranty.

The adapter gets very hot while charging and running when the laptop is in use and the cable appears to be too thin for the max power consumption.

Apple need to up the spec. of the cable and improve the design of the adapter.
