A second 30-pin connector built into the AV adapter lets you charge and sync your device while it’s connected to your HDMI-compatible display.

doesnt work well with iphoto with iphone 4s
i just bought it and tried it with iphoto on the iphone 4s and it does not mirror the screen
the description says:

it is a false statement
i wanted to show the diary on the big screen and it just didnt work i could only see the iphoto logo.

Excellent piece of kit.
Just the job works perfectly. You will need an HDMI cable to act as your extension cable. Note the extra connection that will let you charge the iPad as you use it to play through your TV etc. Note also that when you connect to your iPad it locks to it, (to stop accidental disconnection) when you want to detach, use the little release button at the side not really visible.Works fine with Youtube, BBC player ITV player, iTunes movies and most useful in my case Netflix movies streamed from the internet. Used with new iPad no problems at all. …

Inconsistent connection
Dislike: Inconsistent HMDI connection from an iPhone 4 and worse from an iPad 2. The connection behaves as if there is a short i n the cable... very frustrating! Returned the first purchase, because I thought the product may have been returned damaged; however, second purchase behaved exactly the same. I believe Apple should consider a redesign; great idea, but simply does not work well. …

Does exactly what it says
Not sure what all the fuss is about? I am able to connect my iPhone 4S to this adapter to a HDMI cable to my TV and my phone disp lay is mirrored on the TV. I am able to play slideshows (with music) and videos from my photo album (which is what I needed this for). I also able to show videos using the Youtube app and show games like Angry Birds.
The only complaint (and it's a small one) is the pictures do not completely fill the TV screen (there are small black bars above and below). That's probably due to the fact that the iPhone outputs in 720p and my TV is 1080p? …- Written by Ben W from Cupertino

works fine
No issues. The only apps with issues are things like xfinity player, but not due to technical limitations. There are contractual l imitations.

Hi Jane,
If you have good wireless internet at home (WIFI connection) your best bet is looking at t he Apple TV.
A little more expensive but will play all your iTunes movies and tv shows wirelessly from the iPad, that way you can have the iPad in your lap, no balancing act required :) …- Answered by Kimberley B from Lisarow

I just bought the adapter today for my iPhone 4S with iOS 6.1.3. Apparently, the AFL and Telstra ha ve blocked the live stream to TVs, rendering the cable useless to the app. All I get when I hook it up is sound without picture. So no, you cannot stream the video to your TV any more. …
