The 60 Watt MagSafe Power Adaptor features a magnetic DC connector that ensures your power cable will disconnect if it experiences undue strain and helps prevent fraying or weakening of the cables over time. In addition, the magnetic DC helps guide the plug into the system for a quick and secure connection.
When the connection is secure, an LED located at the head of the DC connector will light up; an amber light lets you know that your portable is charging, while a green light tells you that you have a full charge. An AC lead is provided with the adaptor for maximum lead length, while the AC wall adaptor (also provided) gives users an even easier and more compact way to travel.
Designed to be the perfect travelling companion, the adaptor has a clever design that allows the DC cable to be wound neatly around itself for easy cable storage.
This power adaptor recharges the lithium polymer battery while the system is off, on, or in sleep mode. It also powers the system if you choose to operate without a battery.
Compatible with MacBook and 13-inch MacBook Pro.

Power adaptors do not last
Apple needs to rethink the design of the Magsafe power adaptors. I have bought replacement Magsafe Power adaptors in the past beca use they don't always last. Sometimes 1-2 years but this recent one only lasted 3 months. At $80 per adaptor this is ridiculous. Read online, many consumers have had the same issues. …

New and Better than the Old MagSafe
I own the white 13" 2008 Macbook, and to answer your questions (if any), yes, it works with it. As for the MagSafe itself, it feel s differently built (for the better), it doesn't nearly get as hot as the old MagSafe did (incredibly this one stays very cool, even on extended periods of time, although that could be because it's new.) Lastly, the actual connector is pretty innovative, feels much sturdier and less prone to fire/breaking/separation issues. It also wraps around a better/more effective contour. All in all, for $79 compared to $99, and the benefits i've named, it's a much better buy than the previous MagSafe (still overpriced, apple) …

Awful
Bought this as my old original T-shape maglock charger for my macbook stopped working.
Have had it a total of maybe, 2-3 week s and if I want to charge my laptop the cable has to be put into a very specific position.
Also the metal head that connects to your macbook gets very hot and can burn you.
I will be requesting a replacement and would hope that apple would stop using cheap materials and over charging because of their brand. …- Written by Nath F from STRATFORD-UPON-AVON

Poor Quality
I have gone through 2 of these. At 70 dollars a pop, it's not ideal. The only negative I have with my computer.

Glad I'm not alone, but sheesh!
About to buy my THIRD power adaptor! First one actually lasted about a year (thank goodness!!!) before the cord pulled out of the MagSafe plug. I kept it going for a while by just "stuffing" it back in, but finally sprung for a new one when the short started shutting the computer down (this is probably not good!). In two weeks - the first time it got just slightly yanked - the new one's plug separated from the magnet, which stays stuck in the computer. I can squeeze it together and it kinda works, but another three weeks later the cord is cracking at the same end!
It's a great idea, but the construction is awful!!! …- Written by Lucia C from Los Angeles

Does anyone know if all of the three available Magsafe adapters - 85W, 60W and 45W - are the same physical size?
- Asked by Philip D from Vancouver
- 14/02/2013
Answer
All three are different sizes, and obviously the higher the wattage, the larger the adapter. I freq uently swap between all three (I own 3 laptops - 11", 13" 15"). Using a 45W on the 15" results in a slower charge, but it still charges. With the higher wattage chargers, they can be used on a lower need laptop with no issue at all. The laptop just draws what it needs. …
