Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter
Doesn't work with Samsung TV
Written by JM from Bryn Mawr

I'm very disappointed with this. I bought a new MacBook last week and got the VGA adapter so I could use it with my TV as I did my old PowerBook G4 (via the Mini-DVI to VGA adapter). The new adapter worked fine when I connected it to an overhead projector, but it doesn't seem to send a readable signal to my Samsung LN40A650 television.
I tried booting in to Windows via Boot Camp and got the same result.
I guess I'll have to try the DVI adapter with a converter from DVI to HDMI to use this with my TV. A Mini DisplayPort to HDMI (or even regular DisplayPort, which can be directly converted without using audio) would be ideal, but there doesn't seem to be any sign of that. …More813 of 1075 people found this useful

Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter
Disappointing

I can not get this thing to output to my Samsung LN-4042H 40 inch LCD. The old miniDVI to VGA worked no problem with my old MacBook. I have checked and it is not a TV problem, so certainly something hardware or driver related. Also $29.99 for a video dongle seems steep to me. …More

Output to my 22" Viewsonic is clear and crisp and setup with no effort. Seems to be of the same quality as the mini DVI to VGA adapter which I used everyday for a year with out incident on my old macbook. Should be priced in the 14.99 - 19.99 range. …More

Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter
Good, but needs a firmware update
Written by LS from Oakland

This adapter worked quite well for me, but then it began cutting out
or flickering. I did a web search and learned that Apple now has a
firmware update for the adapter which you can download.
Just plug in your computer with its power supply and with the external
VGA display connected, and run Software Update. So this problem
might explain some of the less-than-positive reviews. …More1 of 2 people found this useful

Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter
A possible solution...
Written by SE from Krusevac

Why don't you (apple) just make a longer cable for adapters like these?
This bulky VGA connector would be further from the computer, making less mess, and having less chance to be pulled out by cable itself.
A lot of people have problems with it, maybe just a longer cable would do some trick? …More16 of 17 people found this useful

What cable do I require to connect my Mac book pro to my Sony Bravia LCD tv
- Asked by SO from CHIGWELL
- 8/10/2009
Best Answer
That depends on your computer and your TV. If you have a new MacBook Pro with DisplayPort output and your Sony TV has VGA and HDMI inputs like mine, you could use this mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter with a male-to-male VGA cable, or you could use a mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter with a DVI to HDMI adapter cable. The DVI solution is preferable because the mini DisplayPort to DVI is digital while VGA is analog. …More
