What cable do I require to connect my Mac book pro to my Sony Bravia LCD tv
- Asked by Simon O
- 8/10/2009
Best Answer
That depends on your computer and your TV. If you have a new MacBook Pro with DisplayPort output and your Sony TV has VGA and HDMI inputs like mine, you could use this mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter with a male-to-male VGA cable, or you could use a mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter with a DVI to HDMI adapter cable. The DVI solution is preferable because the mini DisplayPort to DVI is digital while VGA is analog. …More

I hate to go against someone else's answer, but I have a 13" MacBook Pro (early 2011), and it does have Thunderbolt. All 2011 and later MacBook Pro's have Thunderbolt and all 2011 and later MacBook Air's have thunderbolt. If you have Thunderbolt, you can daisy chain you monitors together, like mentioned in the other answer. The Apple Thunderbolt Display is good for this, although a bit pricy ($999). …More

What would be the noticeable difference between connecting my 24" monitor to my MBP with a Mini DisplayPort->VGA vs. Mini DisplayPort->DVI?
- Asked by Matthew S from Decatur
- 15/03/2010
Answer
I'd agree with Paul Moore. If you are in any way picky and/or knowledgeable about graphics, you will notice a fairly large difference. To me, the image using the VGA connection looks a little fuzzy, and the colors bleed a little bit. Not horrible, just noticeably better using DVI. …More

Answer
the VGA cable is only used to display the image on your screen. The VGA isn't capable of transferring the sound through the television. if you want sound try plugging the mac into some speakers. but if you want the sound coming out of the television, you have to get an HDMI adapter, which is also sold in the apple store. …More
