Flaky performance
Written by AP from Phoenix

I had to plug and unplug my monitor several times before it worked and even now the monitor won't wake up from sleep! Sometimes when it does come up it flickers and has jaggies. I have to unplug the DVI and plug it back in to get it to stop. I never had any issues at all with this monitor on my old MBP. The size of this thing it HUGE, I can't believe they couldn't make it smaller. Literally about 3x4 inches! Feels like they released a poor product AND they did it LATE! …More

Flicker, sporadic issues...
Written by AI from BOSTON
23/12/2008
Major issues...
First, when I plugged it into my brand new 2008 Macbook Pro I got a message saying that the USB device drew too much power! I did manage to make it work by plugging it into my monitor's USB hub, but wow...
Secondly, there is a slight flicker. You can see it clearly with certain kinds of backgrounds and fill patterns. It almost looks like the kind of noise you get with analog, except it's DVI. It's not a severe problem, but *any* flicker with DVI is ridiculous.
Finally, sometimes it just fails. The screen will go all weird, and you have to reset it. Again, it looks like an analog failure mode except it's not...
I'm going to wait a bit and then trying exchanging my adaptor at the Apple store. Maybe there are issues with the first-run units.
Apple really botched this one. Dongles are bad enough, but overpriced broken ones... come on guys...

Works Great NO Problems
Written by TM from Rochester

I used this cable to connect a new Mac Mini to my Apple 30-inch LCD.
Complete plug and play - just plugged it in and it worked perfectly.
It seems the people who have problems with this cable are those using non-apple displays. I would suggest using a third party adapter if you don't have the Apple 30-inch display. …More0 of 4 people found this useful

SIMPLY DOES NOT WORK
Written by TB from Valley Village

Much to my disappointment, this cable does not work - at least not anymore. I have a new 15" Unibody MacBook Pro and a 30" Apple Cinema Display. I had no problems with the cable for the first 3 weeks. I was shocked after reading all of the terrible reviews it got. I thought maybe I was lucky. But true to form, my luck ran out, as did the functionality of this cable. Flickering, static, color bars, blacked out screen, etc. now consumes my $2000 monitor. I was even more shocked when I called Apple Support and they danced around the issue until I was told to "just take it to the store." Apple flat out does not acknowledge the problems being reported about this product. I never thought compatibility would be an issue with an APPLE computer and an APPLE display. This chord has rendered my studio useless, as my 30" monitor was its cornerstone. I bought the chord because I had to. This is not an accessory!!! It is a necessity!!! APPLE, PLEASE RESOLVE THIS ISSUE!!!!!!! PLEASE!!!! …More

Disappointed! F - 30" Cinema Display w/Oct2009 2.66Ghz Mac Mini
Written by NH from Salt Lake City

First of all... this cable is $100. They are charging the same amount for a cable as they charge for the base model iphone (at the time of this review)?! Ok, so I swallow the fact that it costs 10 times what it really should cost...but the overly priced product doesn't work well. Over two years I've run my 30" cinema display from a macbook pro with absolutely ZERO problems. It has been flawless. Brand new mac mini w/ 2.66Ghz processor, and the special $100 cable to connect my 30" display... I have to restart my computer twice a day to make the fuzzy vertical lines disappear. If you like having your display not function well, and if you enjoy fuzzy lines, and loss of color all over your screen, then buy this product. Otherwise... I recommend you find an alternate solution. …More

could I connect my mac via mini diplay port too my my 42 inch hd plasma tv?
- Asked by GH from Glasgow

Totally possible. I am running my new 13" macbook pro into my Samsung 42" HDTV using the mini display port adapter, and a DVI to HDMI cable I bought an apple keyboard w/number pad, hooked up my Logitech MX Revolution wireless mouse.....whallah....42" of Mac. Works absolutely fantastic.
For those of you who want to do this with a macbook......start with the TV off, I open the Macbook press the power button, then immediately close it all the way. Next turn on the TV. and you should be set. I use my laptop as a "desktop" literally everyday. When I do need to go somewhere however, I pull a few wires and walk out the door. The nice thing is, that i am not wearing out the keyboard and the laptop screen when i am hooked up to the flatscreen tv. the life of my macbook LCD screen will be extended ten fold.
Hope this helped. …More- Answered by EM from Uniontown

How can I use the Mac Mini with two monitors?
- Asked by GR from MIssissauga

I do not own a mac mini but I have seen this done many times in retail stores that want to show off the versatility of such a small desktop. The mac mini has two video outputs: a mini-display port and a mini-DVI port. The mini-display port is the same one you find on the current generation macbook, macbook pros (as well as the Mac Pro) and the Mini-DVI is the same as the on the old black/white macbook. I do not know why apple decided to go with two different adapter types but it works just the same as you will need two separate adapters to use two displays anyway. From there, you just buy two "dongles" (display adapters) which hook up to your respective screen input jacks (VGA or DVI) and you're set! …More
