DON'T BE MISLED BY THE INACCURATE REVIEW - ADAPTER WORKS WITH ALL!!
Written by FN from Bel Air

The other reviewer had a problem adjusting the resolution on his machine to match his plasma display. THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE ADAPTER! The adapter does NOT affect the display resolution! It has no processor on board of any kind, it is a simple wire that acts as a conduit between the machine and the display. ANY PROBLEMS THAT THE REVIEWER WAS HAVING WAS WITH THE DISPLAY SETTINGS, AND HAS *NOTHING* TO DO WITH THE ADAPTER. This is a great adapter and has worked extremely well for me for many years with many different machines and displays. Again, don't be misled by an uninformed review. The adapter does what it's supposed to do: transmits between the machine and the display (it can't adjust your display for you, or give you a tutorial on how to do it:). …More

Apple Micro-DVI to VGA Adapter
Works for all the VGA-only devices we've tried
Written by NB from Great Barrington

Works for us with all the digital projectors we've come across. However, whenever possible, use Apple's Micro-DVI to DVI adapter instead. Most higher-end monitors have a DVI input in addition to (or instead of!) a VGA input, and using the DVI avoids converting to analog and then back, and gives less chance for sync issues. …More

Written by LC from WINDLESHAM

Bought this after reading all about it - and it arrived promptly this morning - however it may well fit a projector but the end that should plug into the MacBook Air is about a third too big - so please check - am on phone with Apple now and they are stumped too!
Make sure you order the right adaptor for the right generation of AIr...If you have the first generation then use the Micro and if the second generation then use the mini!! Nothing on website to tell you though - so take care. …MoreWas this useful?

Generally not. Look under the Apple in the upper left of your screen, then go to System Preferences > Display > Arrangement to decide how you're wish to use the monitor. If you don't first see your monitor come up upon plugging in the cable, press Detect Displays at the same System Preferences location previously described. …More
