Overview

The 85 Watt MagSafe Power Adapter features a magnetic DC connector that ensures your power cable will disconnect if it experiences undue strain and helps prevent fraying or weakening of the cables over time. In addition, the magnetic DC helps guide the plug into the system for a quick and secure connection.

When the connection is secure, an LED located at the head of the DC connector will light; an amber light lets you know that your portable is charging, while a green light tells you that you have a full charge. An AC cord is provided with the adapter for maximum cord length, while the AC wall adapter (also provided) gives users an even easier and more compact way to travel.

Designed to be the perfect traveling companion, the adapter has a clever design which allows the DC cable to be wound neatly around itself for easy cable storage.

This power adapter recharges the lithium polymer battery while the system is off, on, or in sleep mode. It also powers the system if you choose to operate without a battery.

Compatible with MacBook Pro.

    Meltdown

My mag connector cord melted as well and became unusable. Apple stores have none available and the on=line info indicates 6 or more weeks delivery. Apple really needs to address this issue. More

    Meltdown after 9 months

I am and have been very protective of all parts of my MacBook Pro, but recently the junction of the MagSafe tip and the cord to the main power unit has begun to melt and fray. This has rendered my MacBook Pro nearly unusable, as I have no way to charge it.

I hope this unit has been redesigned to safely carry the 85w of power without destroying the unit.

    AC adapter meltdown

Written by EC from New York

Hmmm...the computer is 15 months old and exactly 13 months in use. Tender, loving care has been provided, and the adapter never leaves the house.....however, base connecting point of the AC adapter's nifty magnetic head just started to smell of melted rubber; now it is looking melted and i can see the wires inside! Sure enough it will stop working shortly! Should i buy a new one? sigh. More

No problems with 85W MagSafe Power Adapter

I have used this power adapter with my 15" MacBook Pro for nearly 3 years now with no problems. Mostly it is used at home at my desk but I have traveled with it a number of times and it seems to have held up well. I am careful when I unplug or disconnect it from my laptop as well as when I coil the wiring cords to place it in my laptop carrying case. I have not noticed any unusual heating near the connections. Worked fine until...

I have never had any problems with this product (Or any product made by apple for that matter) until now. The power adapter has always been plugged into my surge protector and after 1.5 years of use it just died. I went to charge my MacBook Pro this morning and it wouldn't charge. Very disappointed with this product and Apple as well for releasing such a faulty product. I don't mind paying a high price for Apple products if they work well, but this is just unacceptable and I will not pay $80 for another faulty device....Looking elsewhere!!! More

    Early failure

Written by JD from Saratoga Springs

Had to fork out another $85 for a new Power Adapter due to mine not charging my Macbook Pro. The L.E.D quit working then I noticed my computer not charging back up.
I am careful with all my stuff, no pets and living single. Just outside the warranty by about 3 months.
Why are these so expensive? No place that I could find to rebuild my power adapter from apple. A terrific idea that needs to be made more robust. Adapter needs reinforced at both the magsafe tip and coming out of the transformer.
