Overview

The 60 Watt MagSafe Power Adapter features a magnetic DC connector that ensures your power cable will disconnect if it experiences undue strain and helps prevent fraying or weakening of the cables over time. In addition, the magnetic DC helps guide the plug into the system for a quick and secure connection.

When the connection is secure, an LED located at the head of the DC connector will light; an amber light lets you know that your portable is charging, while a green light tells you that you have a full charge. An AC cord is provided with the adapter for maximum cord length, while the AC wall adapter (also provided) gives users an even easier and more compact way to travel.

Designed to be the perfect traveling companion, the adapter has a clever design which allows the DC cable to be wound neatly around itself for easy cable storage.

This power adapter recharges the lithium polymer battery while the system is off, on, or in sleep mode. It also powers the system if you choose to operate without a battery.

Compatible with MacBook and 13-inch MacBook Pro.

    How about splicing to repair?

Written by AV from Belle Mead

I, like the others before me, have experienced a failure of the connection at the junction where the cord leads into the magnetic brick. I can no longer charge my computer until I purchase and receive an entire new unit which according to the order says will take 7-10 days. I cannot understand why the bad part of the cord cannot be cut off and reconnected much like when a lamp cord needs to be spliced onto a new plug. Since the wait time to receive a new power cord (and mind you I have to buy the whole thing even though the rest of mine seems perfectly fine)is quite a number of days, this leads me into thinking that others may also be having a similar problem with failure of this unit and are also having to purchase enitre new ones.

Apple needs to figure out a way to REPAIR the connection instead of creating a lot unnecessary extra parts that may not be needed by most of us to solve the connectivity issue.

On my previous ibook I also had a failure of the power cord in the same area.

I am not careless and have taken measures not to bend that area to eliminate excessive stress, but to no avail. I have wrapped it with electrical cord to strengthen it, too.

I hate to compare, but my daughter has a Dell Inspiron
that is about 4 years old. The connection at the plug is thicker and has some flexor loops in it. It is sturdier and I can assure you it has received many hours of use with no signs of wear.

Its time for Apple to go green with this issue and REPAIR the connection rather than expecting its customers to replace the entire thing.

Buy the 85 watt MacBook Pro model

    Written by JO from Tacoma

The 60W original equipment power adapter for the Macbook is fine and works as it should. However, if you are buying a spare, why not get the 85W MB Pro model. It is the same price and it seems to stay noticeably cooler when charging the Macbook. I have both computers and the 85W will work for either.

The 60W works only on a limited basis with a Macbook Pro. It will provide enough power to run the computer, but doesn't have enough reserve to charge the battery unless you put the MBP to sleep or shut down. This is actually better than I would have expected.

    MagSafe Tips

    Written by DM from Hamilton

    7/11/2006

I've enjoyed the MagSafe adapter with my MacBook immensely, a far superior design than previous adapters.

I'm not sure about the other people who wrote reviews, but let me share a few tips to help you with your MagSafe power adapter, and keep it from excessive damage.

    1) Don't just yank the MagSafe from the charging socket on the side of your MacBook (Pro). Place your fingers on the small white plug end such that you can gently pull up on it. It will come away from the socket easily, and this won't cause you cord damage down the road.

*The MagSafe was meant to save your computer from an occassion where a quick 'whip' from a tripped over or stuck cord would knock the computer from it's place.

If you constantly yank the cord from the socket, you're simulating the same effect as above. I don't think it was designed for hundreds of yanks, but rather for the few times it will happen inintentionally.

    2) Do not plug it into your computer before you plug the adapter into the wall socket. Sparks and other electricity-related activity could potentially damage your computer.

Observe these steps and you won't end up like the others on here.

    Good experience here!

    Written by MJ from NOTTINGHAM

We've been using one of these power adaptors for 2 1/2 years now on our macbook - no problems what so ever! It just works, and has kept working! Having just purchased a new Macbook Pro I'm hoping that good experience continues.

I also think that, given the complaints about the power adaptor, I might give some feedback on the one which I have for my PC laptop. It's an HP 15" laptop and now on it's 3rd power adaptor in just over 4 years. It just plugs into the back of the laptop, so you do have to be careful not to bend or stress the plug & socket as it sits on your lap, and you need to be VERY careful when wrapping it up to put in in the bag, or it pulls on the cable and breaks the contacts in just the same way as some have said the apple one does. It's also bulkier and heavier than the apple power adaptor. In short, it has the same failings, and some added extra ones too!

    Terrible

    Written by TM from cincinnati

Horrible adapter. The power cord broke out of the plastic casing right where the power cord comes out of the adapter (brick). So wires are exposed and cut. Does not charge anymore and left with no option but to shell out 79$ for another one, which who knows how long it will last!

Spoke with customer service and also a supervisor who said that this product is "fine" and that "wire splaying occurs if one wraps too tightly around the hinges". Thats a pathetic lame excuse APPLE! The hinges are provided for wrapping around them and I dont wrap it "tight". Hello!!

Look at the 1123 reviews (before my review), and if you are patient enough to read them, you will see that there are major complaints with this product including "melting" of the cord, the magnetic part coming off, wire splaying etc etc! How can apple customer service not be reading all this or taking drastic measures to improve the quality on this product!!

Am a big apple fan and will continue to be despite the fact that this is the first time am left unsatisfied!

Disappointed with the product and customer service. Thought Apple was "BETTER" at it compared to others!
