    About Thunderbolt

Thunderbolt is a revolutionary I/O technology that supports high-resolution displays and high-performance data devices via one simple port and a cable that carries both DisplayPort and PCI Express data. And it’s standard on every Mac.

PCI Express is the technology that links all the high-performance components in a Mac. And it’s built into Thunderbolt, which means you can get PCI Express speed outside the box.

Thunderbolt gives you up to 10 Gbps in both directions, allowing for super-fast data transfer between peripherals. You also have enough bandwidth to daisy-chain multiple high-speed devices without using a hub or switch.

Thunderbolt also provides double the power of USB 3.0, delivering 10 watts to peripherals for improved performance on the go.

I thought I might have gotten a bad one at first and swapped it out, but this one is constantly ejecting while working in Premier. I'm using a 17-inch MacBookPro and I really wanted it for the speed and the 2TB, but I can't make it work. It's going back and I should have stayed with G-Drives. My 750G goes everywhere with me in my laptop bag for years.

My library is about 512Gb. It connected to my Mac immediately. The trick is to format it, at both the base level and the partition level or it will simply give you a lot of trouble. Once you have it properly formatted, you will be in hard drive Nirvana. I really like this drive and am going to use it as my iTunes and Photos/Aperture library drive. In fact, it is so good that I am going to buy another one to keep connected to my iMac.

I am certain that the negative reviews are mostly from folks that did not know that little nuance about having to format both the main drive as well as the internal partition to Mac Journaled. Definitely one of the best Thunderbolt Drives out there and a real keeper.

I thought my first was just a dud.. (it crashed on me and being a photographer, that's Worst Case Scenario) My newest LaCie drive is slower than molasses.. Thunderbolt?? HAH!!! It constantly disconnects-- I have both cords connected hoping it would help with speed and it's WAAAAAYYY slower than my 3.0 AND standard USB drives. Absolutely ridiculous. Save yourself the money! I've been sitting here waiting for over an hour, for a wedding to export.. it's taking 2 to 3 times longer than normal. Awful, Awful, Awful.. save yourself the headache.

It it like the cut the price adding the thunderbolt interface (which is usually expensive) to a snail-disc.
Using BlackMagic software I found out that is slower than a WD elements USB3 which costs 1/4 of its price.
