Efficient, simple, reliable!

The drive itself, This is a great hard drive currently at a decent comparative price (only $10 more than another similar drives). The drive itself, though only a 5400 rpm hard drive is still very fast and will no doubt satisfy the average user. I transferred about 70gb of content in less than 15 minutes the first time I used it - not Thunderbolt 2 speeds but still excellent! I now regularly use the drive to back up content via time machine. I have been told that G-Tech is a very reliable company, and that is certainly reflected in this product! Moreover, the design is great, sleek - I personally like the fact that it is available in black, others are not - and metal which is pleasantly cool to the touch (like my MacBook Pro). The only minor downsides are the fact that the usb cable is detachable - this is good if you want to use your own longer cable but in my instance I worry about losing it when travelling etc. - and, as a drive with moving components it certainly requires a lot of power: my usual power usage when plugged into mains is about 5 to 10 W with my rMBP, with the hard drive plugged in and backing up it is 20 to 30 W. These minor issues are not, however, unique to this product and I would strongly recommend it! …

Once it arrived I set it up and backed up my MacBook Pro without any problems! Get price, get product! …

However, to give you a rough idea I have roughly 6000 photos each of about the same file size you would get by taking photos with an iPhone 5 and up or other smartphones and compact hand-held cameras. These 6000 photos occupy 25gb of space which 1/40 of the drive's capacity. So you can certainly expect to get 200,000 photos from a smartphone on there and still have some space left, though remember, photos taken with something akin to a DSLR will most likely take up more space. …
