Product Information

  • Overview

The Belkin WeMo Light Switch lets you use your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad* to turn room lights on and off no matter where you are. All you need is Wi-Fi, 3G, or 4G connectivity for your iOS device.

    Easy installation

You can quickly replace your standard wall switch with the WeMo Light Switch. It's Wi-Fi enabled, so it can connect to your home wireless network. Then you're free to turn the lights off in the kitchen from the other side of the house or from across town.

    Keep track of lighting

Not sure if you forgot to turn the lights off when you left the house? The WeMo app lets you see whether they're on or not, giving you complete control. So you'll never waste energy or walk into a dark house again.

    Convenient compatibility

The WeMo Light Switch is part of the WeMo family of connected home products that make life easier. Subtle backlighting also makes the switch easy to find at night, and it works with any single- or multi-rocker style wall plate.

They are very straight forward to install and work with the existing double and triple socket faceplates. But it is not recommend for 2 or 3 way light switching. The instructions and online video’s via the Belkin website is easy to follow, as well as using your own common sense. I have been running these switches for about a month via my iPhone 4S, using the WeMo application. I configured it, so that the lighting is automated. This is ideal for the short daylight of winter and long nights of darkness here in Alberta. Excellent product, well done Belkin.

I purchased a total of three, and I've been extremely happy. Read the requirements carefully because there are exceptions, but it I purchased a total of three, and I've been extremely happy. Read the requirements carefully because there are exceptions, but it is exceptionally well designed. You can use it with IFTTT and helpful for those time when you're away from your home (light switches). You can have it set up to a plug too, that is how its set up for my lamp in my living room.

    DIY install, fairly straight forward!

Setting up both switches with the app was a little tricky. The first switch set up without a problem but the other required a restart of my phone and wireless network. Even then, the 2nd Wemo network didn't immediately show up. Eventually, after a few tries, I got it working.

Ironically, the hardest part about the installation was the fact that one of my bulbs had blown (I think I have a short). Therefore, I mistakenly thought that the switch was not working for quite some time. :)

I love this product and may buy a third!

  • Functions Well, But Could Fit Better Behind a Group Switch Plate

There was only a minor bend in the plate with the WEMO switch on the end position (small enough to live with), but if I wanted it in the middle position of the set of switches, it would have created a very noticeable bulge in the middle of the switch plate.

It was easy to connect to my wi-fi network, easy to program using the iPhone app. Remote controlling the switch through the app works well. Updates to firmware haven't caused any problems. There is one limitation in the auto on/off programming (rules). When using sunset or sunrise times for a rule, it just takes the sunset/sunrise time that day and uses that for all subsequent days instead of using a different sunrise/sunset time each day as the days get longer or shorter. The sunset/sunrise times can be refreshed but you have to manually refresh the rule in the app for this to happen. Also I think a timer function would be great where you could use the app to tell it to turn on the switch now and then turn off after a set amount of time.

I have five in use and they are all working well. They were working poorly about 6 months back, could not see them most of the time even when on my home network, but at least the programmed rules kept working fine. That was either resolved by a FW update or SW update. Working well now and I love the them. I have two outside and they stay attached to my network, no problem.

Your house will have neutral but not worth the cost of routing the cable to your switch. I believe (from a sparkie) that despite the warnings , the switch will work without neutral but you are installing against the vendor's recommendation.
