Twelve South BookArc for MacBook Air (2nd Gen.)

Twelve South BookArc for MacBook Air (2nd Gen.)

Product Information

  • Overview

BookArc is a new version of Twelve South's popular desktop stand made specifically for the 2nd-generation MacBook Air. Built of sturdy, heavy-gauge steel, it elevates MacBook Air above your desk, freeing up space and creating a less cluttered workspace.

    Even better performance

Paired with a display and keyboard, BookArc lets you work with your MacBook Air closed, which improves performance. That's because when closed, your MacBook Air dedicates 100% of its video memory to the external display rather than splitting it with the built-in display. There's also built-in cable manager that keeps all of your desktop connections at the ready.

You own a MBA, you demand that solutions deliver perfect performance without the slightest compromise in styling. That's why you'll by the book arc.

First it's beautiful, the styling is a wonderful compliment to the MBA. The metal is slightly darker in color than the MBA body but nothing to complain about. It's a little annoying that the 12 south logo is on the top, but their logo is cool and the placement is forgivable. The way it displays the MBA and the apple logo is awesome. It makes me wish there were a way to keep the logo lit without using the backlight.

Functionally, 12 south has developed a winner here. It's got a great weight to it, NO worries about it tipping - very stable. The fit is like a glove - perfect with no wiggling or leaning etc. I wish the cable management hook did a better job, the power cable frequently falls out and needs to be replaced or adjusted prior to placing the unit in the arc.

This is a great accessory. Storing the MBA vertically is fun, makes the unit easy to grab and use and also saves a lot of desk space. Work in clamshell mode? This is for you.

Note that since the arc is such a perfect fit - there is a trick to getting it out. You've got to tip the MBA to the side then lift. If you pick it straight up, the arc sticks. This is NOT as horrible as it sounds and tipping the MBA to "undock" is kinda cool anyway.

Useful groove in the rubberized material for cables
Made out of Metal not plastic!

    Cons:

It worries me slightly that the notch isn't terribly deep. This is probably just paranoia though because the rubber grip holds onto the MBA quite firmly.

This BookArc is very well made, stylish and it seamlessly goes with the macbook to the point that I though it was made my Apple itself.

I understand that $40 dollars is quite expensive for a piece of metal and rubber but if one would use it, for example, a year it would cost ¢10 per day, where would you find something to nicely hold your macbook air, have more desk real estate and be stylish?

    Exactly.

Buy this, you won't regret it or would you rather spend $40 on ten overpriced, over caffeinated and over sugared Starbucks coffees that it would take a long time to burn off the processed calories?

    I wouldn't think so.

By placing the hinge and antenna side down and in the BookArc slot, I consistently get a reduction of 10dB which is significant when trying to squeeze every bit of speed when downloading or uploading files. I use two different routers, an Airport Extreme and Express in two different homes with the same observation. Conditions range from having a clear LOS at 35 ft. to penetrating two double walls and a floor at approximately 25ft. By having the MBA lips down, cables are easy to access but the overall appearance of the combo takes a hit.

This allowed me to get the mac off to the side and out of the way, kinda. That being out of the way has become hindersome. It's not like a tower that you have access to your ports right in front, your ports are on both sides. Just something to consider.
