Apple Recommends For

Useable indoors or out, this is great fun for anyone with an iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad.

Remote-controlled by your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad, the AR.Drone offers a number of sensors, including a front camera, vertical camera and an ultrasound altimeter. You can also use the AR.Drone in video games, such as AR.FlyingAce, a dogfight between two AR.Drones.

Control with your Apple device

Thanks to its on-board Wi-Fi system, you can control the Parrot AR.Drone using an iPhone, iPod touch or iPad.

High-technology sensors for simple piloting

A mix of captors, wide-angle camera, high-speed camera and MEMS (micro electro mechanical systems), accelerometer, gyro sensors, and ultrasound sensor combine with a powerful on-board computer to make piloting the AR.Drone easy. Simply use your iPhone or iPod touch, and just tilt and touch to control the AR.Drone.

Connect and see

The Parrot AR.Drone generates its own Wi-Fi network to which you connect your iPod touch or iPhone to control. The front camera view is streamed to your piloting device display.

Autopilot

The AR.Drone autopilot allows easy takeoff and landing. After takeoff, autopilot stabilises the AR.Drone at an 80-centimeter altitude. When you remove your finger from the iPhone/iPod touch, the autopilot function automatically puts the AR.Drone into stationary flight. Lost connection with the AR.Drone? Autopilot takes over again and stabilises the device before attempting a soft and safe landing.

Indoor and outdoor hulls

The full hull shield protects the AR.Drone from impacts that occur during wild battles against enemies hidden in the rooms of the house. The streamlined coloured hull is aerodynamic, allowing greater control outside.

High durability and easy repair

AR.Drone is made of carbon fiber and high-resistance PA66 plastic. You can replace all parts for easy repair.

Free piloting app on iTunes

To control the AR.Drone, just download the free AR.Freeflight app from the App Store. All you need is an iTunes account.

Augmented reality games

Not only can you see what the AR.Drone sees with the front-mounted camera, you can play a wide variety of games in augmented reality. AR.Games will be sold in the iTunes App Store. Choose from a selection of single-player and multiplayer games, using the AR.Drone's camera and the augmented reality applications. Shoot enemies or other drones.

    Cool toy!

    • Written by from San Antonio

I have an AR.Drone and it is a fun toy. It is super easy to fly, but isn't so easy you're going to master it in one day. The integration with the iPhone and iPad is great. You basically connect your device to the AR.Drone's ad hoc wifi network then launch the app. My advice is to buy another battery, because it's really fun to fly! More

    AMAZING!

    • Written by from New Orleans

This is a must have for any rc enthusiast who owns an iPad, iPhone or iPod touch! I've owned my drone for about three weeks and had an unfortunate accident with the first one just being careless. I was easily able to repair the central cross with no previous hobby or rc experience!
I was so impatient I bought another drone while I waited for the repair parts to come! that's honestly how much fun these things are. I suggest buying the program flight record however from the app store so you can record your flights. Oh yeah buy extra batteries I have 3 and it's still not enough.

    A.R. Drone Rocks!

    • Written by from Santa Rosa

Best fun you can have with your Iphone, Iphone touch or Ipad. I use my Ipad and have flight recorder app. It is so fun to fly and easy to master after a few flights. The onboard cameras, THATS RIGHT onboard cameras, one in front and one at the bottom. No need to have drone in sight, just watch your screen. One con to the Drone, distance is only 50 meter range. Regardless a MUST BUY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. More

So good I'm getting the new version

    • Written by from Estero

I have had a blast with this and find it relaxing to take a flight around the house or in the yard. The camera on the first version is a little weak and I'm looking forward to the new version. Wish they had trade in process! More

Robust, Slim, and All Around Amazing!

    • Written by from Cedar Park

This device really is an amazing machine through every aspect. Unlike some say, it DOES NOT require more than one battery or more than one of anything else. The battery does only last about 10-15 minutes, but you'd be surprised what you can get out of it. You also don't have to spend much for replacement parts. I've crashed mine a couple of times, and I've only spent about $30 on parts. The app it uses is intuitive, right along with what's inside, so there's no reason to not consider it; even though the price is "sky high" for something of its size, you're actually paying quite a good price for all you're getting. Challenging as you want but be prepared for DIY

    • Written by from Ascot

The AR Drone is heaps of fun right out of the box and quiet easy to fly (I have tried it with iPhone, iTouch and iPad) but also has a step up in challenge if you want to fly it totally via the video on screen (i.e. around corners out of sight). There are a number of commercial apps on the App Store that advance the concept of the way you can play with the AR Drone.
As some others have said, surprise, surprise, it can be fragile if you hit things with it!
The thing to note is that just about any part can be replaced, rotors, motors, body, bearings etc. (check eBay & Amazon for example) so if you want to have a long life for your AR Drone be preapred to do a little DIY maintenance and repairs. It's all part of the experience.

OK, lets get a little technical here; WiFi networks have a limited range of about 300ft outdoors and about half that indoors. I had flown mine "line-of-site" in clear weather (sunny no wind) all the way to the end of my street which is a distance of about 320ft when i noticed lag in controls and decided to land before i lost control all together. Hope this helps. More

The other answer is not true. I get about 20-30 minutes of flight time outdoors without the protective hood. It also depends on how much you stress the device ... heavy and fast manuevers help reduce battery time.
Charging time is about one hour.
