Does the new iMac have dvd/disc drive?

I am seriously considering a Mac, but it will only be of use if it has a disc drive.
From the blurb on the site, it appears the new Mac does not have a disc drive which seems a bit silly.
How, without having extra items dotted about desk tops, do you load data discs in without a disc drive?
Could this force me away from Mac due to this seeming exclusion of a useful tool?
Thanks in advance.

The new iMac does NOT contain a DVD drive, many people nowadays never use them. If you really want a disk drive just buy a superdrive then sit it on the foot of the iMac.

  • The new iMac doesn't include the CD/DVD Drive because they where slimming the system down. But there are 2 options if you need the CD/DVD Drive. Option 1: You can buy the Apple CD/DVD Dirve Unit or Option 2: if you all ready have a Mac or PC, Apple have created a programe where you can borrow the CD/DVD Drive in the different PC/Mac and use it on the new iMac.

  • no, from what i can see it does not have a disc drive, however you can always purchase an apple super drive (or other external disc drive), which connects via USB and can read and write almost all types of disc for i think about £60. i know its an add on, but i cannot fault the os x mountain lion operating system it is just a dream. i think apple are trying to move towards disc free file sharing - i.e. all download, but don't let it put you off mac. :) hope this helps x
