does macbook air play dvds and cds

I'm trying to decide wheter I want to buy a apple macbook pro or a macbook air. I would like to be able to type my school work, browse the internet, watch dvds etc. But
I am not sure which laptop that I want. And I'ved heard that the pro has more powerful processing but I would like to be able to do various things on the laptop.

    No. but if you had a external superdrive, or disk drive, such as the apple external super drive you could plug it into via usb then you could do it.
