    Brilliant Product

    • Written by from LONDON

My 2 cents concerning reception: this little device will receive the same channels any other big freeview box will receive with the same antenna. If an indoor aearial is good enough where you live, then you will pull in all the channels with the deluxe as well, no problem.

Althogh the size of the tuner (minature as you can see from the pictures) is impressive, I am much more impressed with the EyeTV software that comes with it. Through the integrated program guide you can have you favorite shows automatically recorded or create "smart guides" to record shows based on different filters you set. I hardly watch live TV anymore because I just let EyeTV record everything I enjoy watching. When you do watch live tv, you can pause and rewind. There are almost too many other features to talk about like cutting out commercials, exporting into all kinds of formats, full screen menu etc.. I also have the iPhone app which lets me stream TV from my home computer to my iPhone when I'm travelling (how cool is that???). This is by far the best software I have ever seen for bringing TV onto a computer, and I've tried quite a few. Highly recommend this product.

Ye cannae change the laws of physics...

    • Written by from Wendover

I just thought it was important to respond to the reports of bad reception using this product. Unfortunately, the centre of a big city - like London - is exactly the sort of situation and location that all receivers struggle with.

In fact, there are not "multiple high power transmitters" - there are just a few - with a number of other low power repeaters. Added to that, there are many high buildings that reflect transmitted signals - with both constructive and destructive interference.

There are many locations in London where reception of terrestrial signals is just not possible - with any kit. DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting) has a transmission method that combats multi-path interference, whereas DVB (Digital Video Broadcasting) does not.

In some situations, the physical location of the antenna can make a big difference. Even as little as a few feet can have a big effect - and sometimes different locations suit different channels (multiplexes) better.

You could try adding a USB extender cable in line with the device - meaning that you can change the location of the antenna whilst keeping your Mac in a suitable place for viewing.

    EyeTV DTT Deluxe works great!

    • Written by

I just tried the new EyeTV DTT Deluxe. It works great, and it is tiny and smart. I like the look. This is a really cool and smart product that I will recommend. Also Elgato ship drivers and software for Windows 7 along. No limits, it runs great! More

    Good at first, but unreliable

    • Written by from Kington Langley

I'm now on my third Eyetv Deluxe DTT in 4 years so buyer beware!
It appears that they've made it so small that its just plain unreliable.

The main use I use it for is plugged into a Mac Mini, which then outputs my TV programs I've missed to my iPhone. It is great at doing this when the software works.
But, quite often you can come home to no recording at all, because the software has failed to update the DVB guide on its own.

Terrible piece of software, terrible hardware. I just wish someone else would enter the TV tuner market for Apple so Elgato got some decent competition and raised their game.

    junk

    • Written by from Wentworthville

This product is junk. Living in Sydney, the only channels it will pick up are ABC News, a dozen different wavelengths for SBS, Channel 9 which never ever actually works, GEM and some other stations from Illawarra and Wollongong. Have not been able to pickup Channel 7 or 10 which are broadcast from Sydney. More

    Don't waste your money

    • Written by from SYDNEY

This product was recommended by an "expert" at the Apple store, what they didn't tell you is that it won't give you channels 9 and 7. If you can't get two of the major free to air channels, then its not worth the $160 you have to pay to get it. More

This comes from the Elgato support site:

"EyeTV for DTT stick does not come with a bundled remote, but it does have an IR receiver.

It can work with the Apple Remote bundled with new Macs, and with remotes included with other EyeTV products."

If you're asking about whether this can receive free to air TV, the answer is yes.

I would proceed with caution though as you need to make sure you have good reception. These tuners are not a "full-blown" tuner so it may not perform as well as one. I'm in Summer Hill Sydney and I had a terrible time trying to receive consistent reception using both internal and external antennas, even with a signal booster.

I tried 2 of these and had to take them back in the end for a refund. Thankfully Apple staff were helpful and gave me a refund no problems.
