    Cooked

    • Written by from No

My charger actually melted and was close to catching fire. Talk about too hot to touch. I am happy about 2 things. First my house didn't catch fire, I have gfc breakers allover. And I am lucky my IPAD did not cook. Just shocked at the quality of these products. It amazes me that their peripherals are so lame given the quality of their main products. And sadly, we are a captive audience as far as these products go since the products only work when used with mostly genuine Apple products. Very sad.

    apple iPad charger

    • Written by from Castle Rock

I have bought over 5 iPads for all family members. The chargers for all of us always over heats and stops working after about 6 months use. I buy a new one and it works for a while and then starts over heating again. VERY DISAPPOINTED IN APPLE AND THEIR PRODUCT. The only thing you can do, until Apple stops being greedy, is re buy over and over and over again approximately every 6 monte. They should just replace it for free but then they wouldn't make another million off of us who can't resist the iPad.

    Genuine OEM vs aftermarket

Inside the genuine Apple charger is quality controlled and designed circuitry that produces low noise pure power charge currents.

    Overheats!!!

    • Written by from Hancock

I am so glad to see others with this problem. My 12 volt charger is fairly new, came with my ipad or iphone, and it overheats to a scary degree when I charge with it. At the point where I no longer charge with it leaving it at home or overnight while sleeping. Seems like a fire hazard and lawsuit or class action suit waiting to happen. So surprised apple is not replacing them gratis. I remember when they sent us all new (5?) volt chargers for ipods, iphones a few years ago. I do not expect this poor quality from apple.

    Doesn't hold up; overheats

I'm about to replace the second one in 18 months. The cord breaks away from the connecter and it overheats.

    Overheats

    • Written by from West Lafayette

New power adapter for my iPad Air overheats to the point of not working and too hot too hold. Cool it down, it works again and returns to a hot stage resulting in failure. Apple USB cords now also have shorter lives. Returning to the nearest Apple store which is 60 miles away is costly and terribly inconvenient.

    Powerful power adapter.

    • Written by from SAGINAW

Works as expected, but for those complaining/commenting about the shape and how it blocks other outlets like in power strips, you DO have an option.

Just unplug the prong part, and any (that I'm aware of) Apple power adapter removable cable will snap right in to where the prong part came out of, and tah-dah you have an adapter that doesn't block plugs on a power strip, and allows for the 'brick' to be placed anywhere handy. I have a cable from an old (dead) airport Express and it works perfectly.

    Problem solved...

I bought this adapter with my first generation nano years ago, I've never had a single problem with this product. I'd recommend this product for everyone.

    Much faster than included charger!

    • Written by from Huntsville

My iPad mini (1st gen) came with a standard 5W charger (the cubic one). I finally heard from a friend that you can use this charger with any iOS device, including my iPad mini. It is worth the $19 because it charges my iPad at least twice a fast. I don't know why this charger isn't included in every Apple product. If you don't have this, you definitely need this.

We had a power surge due to inclement weather. Freezing rain caused many power outages in our area and ours went out very briefly because of a surge. My iPad was charging at the time and THANK YOU APPLE for this awesome charger!!! The charger is now fried, but not my iPad!!!!

    Heat Failure

    • Written by from Buffalo

It's a great charger which I've had since the purchase of my 4th gen I-Pad about 14 months ago. It just failed on me so I need to replace it. I feel it failed because of the incredible heat it generates. The brick becomes (and always has) very very hot, almost too hot to touch. If purchasing this unit please be aware of the heat factor and do NOT leave it plugged in for extended periods of time.

    I love the speed...

    • Written by from Atlanta

The power adapter that comes with the iPad Mini just takes way to long to charge my iPad. On top of that it didn't seem to top off my battery properly. The rep at Apple suggested this adapter and I couldn't be happier. NO EXAGGERATION! My iPad charges at least 50% faster. I drained the battery completely and then recharged. In about 15-20 minuted my iPad was back to 50%. I will note that I leave the iPad powered off during this time. Obviously Apple makes it money by selling the weaker adapter with the iPad and have customers by the better one separately. They're not a billion company by luck or chance. None the less. If you want to charge your Apple products in half the time buy this adapter and just leave the other as a spare. Highly recommend!

    Stopped working

    • Written by from Perth

The charger that came with the iPad 2 lasted about a year then suddenly stopped working. It refused to charge even though I tried it with a different cable and device so definitely dead.

This is a 2 Amp charger (as opposed to the factory iPhone 1 Amp one that looks the same in Australia) since it needs more juice but was operating very warm when doing a full charge and I think due to it being stressed out in that small package it fails. I'm unsure if Apple have an updated revision since the iPad 2 but I decided to go with a Belkin one and keep the receipt just in case. The Belkin is more expensive.

Failure of charger in less than six months

This charger overheated and failed to work. The overheat was serious and probably would have resulted in a meltdown or fire. I do not recommend the product.

    The best for iPad mini

    • Written by from York

This charger is the very best you can buy. Apple should include it with the mini. With the included 5w charger, it takes 3-4 hours to charge. With this new one, it can charge from 0% to 100% in about one hour. I would highly recommend this to anyone who is looking for a faster way to charge your device.

Pretty compact and useful to have a spare...

    • Written by from Bramhall

As some people have reviewed negatively this does not include the USB cable - but many people will already have one and just want a spare charger. You can buy either the lightning / dock cable separately - including one would have wasteful and upped the price for people who already have one.

12w (so over 2 amp) high speed charging - although due to the huge capacity battery in the iPad it still takes a while to charge if completely flat.

I had seen 3rd party chargers a bit cheaper but to be honest for something plugged in probably most of the time I'd rather pay the extra few pounds for a genuine charger.
