    Not especially pleased

    • Written by from LOS ANGELES

My only complaint about the 85W MagSafe 2 Power Adapter is that the rubber insulation on the cable leading from the T-connection to the adapter "burns" off in just a few months, leaving the adapter's internal metal cable exposed and creating a potential fire hazard. A real drag, I must say!

    Disappointing cable

    • Written by from Coventry

I travel every week for business and often am working solely from my Mac book. Despite all of the negatives regarding the magnet, I have no problem with it. The cable however is another story. It does not hold up to repeated rewinding for storage. For home use it would probably be fine but I wind and unwind 4-6 times a day and am waiting for the cable to just break off. Less of a concern but a related issue is that I developed a wear through spot mid cable. The only way that could have happened is from friction while in a padded laptop bag.
Weak points like this are not worthy of such a good product as the Mac Book

    Cable way too weak

    • Written by from Birmingham

The charger is nice in the sense that you can have 2 varied lengths, one where the brick is in the wall and one with the extension attachment. But the cable it self between the brick and the MacBook is way too think. The end closest to the MacBook wears out way too quickly, even if you try your best to look after it. And then they charge you £65 for another one!! I think when I'm spending almost £2,000 on a laptop, I would expect a charger that could last at least 3 years before any signs of wear.

    Very low power I suppose

    • Written by from Graz

I recently realized, that everytime I use my Mac for "gaming" the battery discharges. I thought my adapter wasn't connected properly, but it wasn't the case. The scenario: Battery fully charged. Remaining time about 8hours. I plug the charger back and play Dota 2 for 6 hours. Exit dota and see the battery has only 80% of charge. The adapter is very hot. I think, the top of the line macs should have at least 100W Power Adapter. The Graphics, the CPU it consumes way more power than the Adapter is capable of "producing"

    Very delicate

    • Written by from Mount Laurel

The thin cord that runs from your laptop to the charging brick has a very weak cord connecting it to the brick. The material around it tears easily exposing the thin cords which also sever soon after. I have gone through 2 of these and at a crazy $79.99 a piece it is getting ridiculously expensive. I expect better if I'm going to spend thousands on your computers.

    Plug Retention Weak

    • Written by from Victoria

I agree with those calling for stronger magnets on the charger's connector to the laptop. Current model is too weak. Care must be taken with the next chargers to not over compensate.
    All else works fine.

Doesn't work as well as previous power adapters

    • Written by from Newark

I've used the previous "L" and "T" adapters for years and never had an issue. This MagSafe 2 has a weak magnetic connection and falls out very easily. I also need to wiggle it quite a bit for it to start charging. If I didn't need it to power my new Macbook, I would just disregard it altogether. I've had it for just a few weeks and it already seems to be a worsening issue, so I plan to exchange it and hope the replacement works a lot better.

    wrong shape

    • Written by from London

the actual piece of metal that attaches to the computer simply comes off too much. Because, due to the shape of the charger, the wire comes straight out of the side of the computer when the charger is attached, it is very easily unhooked or unhinged. I never experienced this problem with the second version of the magsafe 1 adapter, the one that was cylindrical. On the old charger the wire went out behind the computer and was never really knocked out. This design is flawed though. The charger does also get very very hot.

    Dissapointed

    • Written by from Sanford

I love Apple products, and have had everything from a shuffle through a rMBP now. The one thing I can complain about is the chargers. I have only had my rMBP since May (now Dec.) and I just noticed that the cord is starting to split in the most random area! It really makes me mad, being a high school student and saving my money for this that it would break so easily. I take all precautions, and I am very careful with all my things.

Sometimes the charger doesn't even start charging until I unplug and replug into the wall a couple times. It's very frustrating. Hope that Apple can fix this (and pretty much all their other chargers) so that we can enjoy our electronics more often!

The Old Style worked the best

    • Written by from Edmond

Why did you change the style of the charger? The old one had a stronger magnet along with the cord running more along the side of the laptop, this made it much tougher to fall off. Very disappointed.

    Love hate

    • Written by from Sherman Oaks

I love that its magnetic and protects itself against trips etc. but I think the magnet should be stronger than it is maybe twice as strong?

I don't like that the jacket material that covers the cord is utter garbage I'm on my 3-4th replacement from apple because after a few months the jacket begins to split near the connectors from I guess stress of some kind. Now I'm not what I consider a power user but I take my laptop around at least 2 times per week but for the most part unless I'm charging it near my couch where I'm usually using it the charger just sits near by so I don't understand how it can split from stress.

    Charger has broke after 13months

    • Written by from Bourne

I absolutely love my mac laptop but after only having it for 13 months my charger has broke. Its not even a fuse that has gone in the plug itself, its the box onwards. It heats up a lot which I think is a main issue. Im really disappointed that I am now having to spend out on a new charger especially because I am a student, its very expensive for me.

    broken and frayed connection

    • Written by from Toronto

The part where the cable connection meets with the adapter has frayed and severed. This is a new cable. I'm not happy with having to shell out another $100 on an adapter in order to use my computer.

Is it suppose to burn up?

    • Written by from McDonough

The magnet is not strong enough to maintain the connection, so any movement makes it disconnect from charging. Though that is minor compared to the most recent issue, in which I noticed that it was no longer charging my mac so upon picking up the block I immediately felt it was burning hot. After looking a little closer, I was able to see that the cable was brown and burnt, exposing the silver wire on the inside. A little terrifying!

    Adapter not lasting long enough

    • Written by from Los Angeles

I don't know if i am unlucky or bad lucked or what but i have had two adapters already the first that came with the MBP and another i bought for Christmas, and now I'm going for a 3rd one! the first one lasted a year the only problem was the end of the cable was disintegrating and didn't pull enough power because the wires were not touching properly but the second and i don't really know how this happened! it just burnt out, like really? honestly how will just burn out! i tried not to bend it as much to avoid from repeating what happened to my first charger and now this one just burns out! honestly its not like the adapter is really cheap that i can buy 100 of them! I'm a college student and the second one was my Christmas gift now i will have to pay this out of my own wallet. I love my MPB but i think apple has to do something about the charger because i can't keep affording to buy a new one every year.

    Lasted 2 years

    • Written by from Orem

I noticed a little black ring that started forming around one of the pins inside of the magnetic connector a few months ago. Now that there are two of those rings, the charger only gives enough charge to maintain charge while in-use, whereas before, it would charge rather quickly, even under heavy use.

Sad day. This is as early of a malfunction from an Apple product as I've ever had, and this is the 11th Apple product I've purchased.

Good heat protection, but the cable...

    • Written by from Forli

Seriously, Apple should change the materials they use for their own cables, not only this but also all my iPhones start to become yellow and sworn near the connector after just a few months and then tear, stopping to work soon after. This never happened with any other brand of smartphones or notebooks and they are common cheap plastic. Apple's cables' rubber is RUBBISH falling in pieces.
My 2nd star is only because they do have a good heat protection auto recovery, which saved me from an early replacement, but still their power supply get hotter than average.

    Falls Out Way Too Easily

    • Written by from Roseville

What can I say? As a charger, it charges my computer.

However, it falls out way too easily. I'd be working on my computer while it's charging, and it would just disconnect if I move the computer a few centimeters.

Definitely dissatisfied with this thinner MagSafe charger.
