I already administer 15 client computers using OS X Server. Will ARD allow me to install third party software updates automatically?

We currently use the software update module of OS X Server to automatically take care of OS X system updates to each client workstation. This works fine. However, installing third party updates (such as MS Office updates) is a pain and requires logging in as administrator at each client Mac. Can I use ARD to automatically install updates for third party applications to each client Mac?

  • It may be tough, You can use the package maker included with ARD to make an installation package that can be pushed to all clients. However, whether that third party supports external update packages (as apposed to updates from within the applications) is the question. If you can manually download the updates for the applications as an actual install file (hopefully mpkg) then it should be fine.
