Can I connect an iMac with FireWire to a LacCie thunderbolt drive.

I have a 2010 27" iMac with FireWire ports and no thunderbolt ports, no doubt in the future I will upgrade to a new iMac, but for now need more storage, would like to buy a large Raid product to store my growing movie collection with a mirror backup.

No. You cannot convert your FireWire port to a Thunderbolt port.

You are limited to a different drive that has FireWire.

While Apple has a dongle that will convert a Thunderbolt port to FireWire on computers that have that Thunderbolt built in, the dongle does not work in reverse. The dongle is to connect a FireWire drive to a Thunderbolt equipped computer that does not have a FireWire port.
